Shaq admits that he was paid - This is more proof that the NCAA has no spine! - oliveandblue - 01-26-2016 03:26 PM

Note: This is not a direct attack on LSU. LSU simply does what many FBS programs already do every single season.

At this point, why does anyone even bother with the NCAA? What's the point of following the rules when breaking them nets you more positives than negatives? There is so much money across all of FBS that nobody is going to tip the apple cart for much of anything.

Of course he was paid. Didn't you watch Blue Chips.

Maybe the IRS does. Statute of limitations never expires if you file a false return.

My father at USC during the glory years decades ago says he was paid (a hell yeah I got paid is how he put it). This isn't exactly surprising. Next you're gonna tell me sCam Newton didn't get paid.

Several players at UCLA during their title run have admitted they were paid. My Dad had a friend who had gone to Arkansas who said he got paid 10k a year back in the 50s.

That's why its in no way surprising. To his credit, my brother said he never took any payments while at a certain SEC school.

A friend of mine played in the band at USC thirty-five or so years ago and said the band got regular hundred-dollar handshakes from alumni.

Everywhere they talk about that. I know Dan Issel talked about it at Kentucky. I've heard it other places.

Awhile he certainly may have been paid, you have to take he comments in context. He was clearly joking,-: he spent the whole time making wise cracks, including jabs at sir Charles.

It makes you wonder, who in the hell are theses alums?

I go to functions, donate money, the works and have never once thought about handing a kid in the band a dime, nor am I ever even close to the band or any of its members. I can't imagine any of the others around me doing it either.

So it begs the question, just who is the archetypal alumni that goes around handing cash to random kids?

This guy?

And you wonder why the schools are in the black.

That's nothing. You should see what the Glee Club got.

If you have sources such as myself who have close trusted people who can confirm these things are real and happened, what else do you want? It even happened with the woman's basketball program while I was at school, granted we had a very high profile coach (I didn't go to UH). Girls were getting handouts under the table [insert unrelated dirty joke here].

After an East Carolina game I watch an ECU fan drop a few twenties to a player from the stands. However it was his dad dropping money for his son and it was an away game. But I was thinking if anyone else saw this or if the NCAA saw this would that be against the rules.

When I was a Freshman at Kentucky in 1971, Freshmen weren't allowed to drive Their cars to school. Banned actually. But in Holmes Hall, The Freshmen Basketball dorm then had Every Recruited player there with Brand New Muscle or Sports cars parked right outside of the dorm on South Limestone st. or Euclid ave. Also with the Team being on the first floor with opening windows it was very common to see and hear Women climbing in and out of those windows any hour, any night of the week. UK Celebrity status had it's benefits..............Probably still does !

I think you sort of answered your own question. I often find these guys are not always alumni of the university in question. They are guys who are long time fans of a school with lots of cash who believe the ends justify the means in order keep a program at a high level (see Nevin Shapiro at Miami, Bobby DiGeronimo at Ohio State among others).

'Does'?

Even if Shaq was paid, that was 25 years ago so not worth much in knowing what they are doing now, eh?

It still was a seedy situation all the way around.

Shapiro is the ponzi scammer that drugged a lot of college football coaches down into the dirt.
