I love watching construction and engineering projects unfold. They're putting a new bridge alongside the old one on the main road to my house and I've enjoyed it's day by day progress.

That looks like it's going to be sweet. What will the capacity be? Do you ever expect anyone in the seats in the lower left corner of the pic? Looks like they'd be rough to see much from.

But I love the way the lower bowl is shaping up. Very nice. How big of a video board and where will its placement be? Right endzone?
Capacity officially will be somewhere between 23k to 25k but that does not include the upper deck. The seats on the lower level of RF will eventually be removed. The upper deck RF seats will stay. The video board dil be the same one used by the Braves (rendering o n my signature). It will be the 8th largest in college football.

So whats going to replace the lower level RF seats? Just a massive concourse or new concessions and bathrooms?

Unknown. No final decision yet.

Looks like but I wouldn't hold their feet to the fire on renderings. They tend to be design in progress.

They are actually two hotels that are adjacent to the stadium.

Thought we were talking about the rendering. Yeah two hotels that hopefully get bought out and renovated.

I wish they have gotten rid of that silly cutout where home plate used to be and made one straight wall, but other than that it looks fantastic. On the other hand, I guess you could say it gives the lower bowl a unique character.

I agree 100% on that home plate issue. It's obvious we are in a former baseball park, I see no need it perpetuating the features if necessary. I would much rather it be a uniform wall all the way around, but it may actually be a useful feature if those are old dugout entry points on either side that they are attempting to maintain. Regardless, I'm just happy to have it at all.

Reserving judgment until all the seats are in and field is down. Way more concerned about lower level RF in phases 2 and 3.

Seeing it come together, I think it's actually going to look quite a bit nicer than I expected. I thought it may have weird angles and open spaces, but it looks like the new seating will be pretty snug around the field.

I wouldn't be surprised if goal number 1 is to get it to functional readiness for year 1 then tighten up the screws so to speak following that. Charlie Cobb is a builder. Not the most personable or polished guy but he had vision and got things done when he was AD at App State. Ga State got a good one (but I'd still take Doug Gillan over Cobb).

Stay tuned for a concert announcement. Irish Rock and Roll royalty rumored to appear at GSU Stadium this fall. One of only two college stadiums on the Tour.

It just dawned on me that this thread might exist solely for GSU football to have a ridiculously long thread. 03-wink I kid. I can't wait to somehow incorporate a tomahawk chop into something yosef-related! Looking good.

I mean, you gotta do what you gotta do, but that's laughably small, and it doesn't really look like they're making it expandable.

RE: Turner Field to be sold to Georgia State University - panama - 06-08-2017 10:50 PM

I'm no engineer but it looks totally expandable by buiilding a grandstand behind it and extending it to just below club level in RF. Remember this is Phase I of several.

just looking at it I'd say capacity will be 24,000...over 30k if you open up the outfield upper deck.

that's the perfect size for a Sun Belt team (hell, it's bigger than WKU or Charlotte's stadium out of CUSA)

much better than a 70,000 seat dome they can't even half way fill. (just ask UAB)

Turner field cost over 200 million in the 90s and has been renovated...there's no way GState could afford a stadium with MLB style amenities for what they're paying.

Upper Deck takes you to 40k plus. But you're correct. Handed a stadium with professional level amenities for nearly nothing. BTW that is $327M in construction costs in 2017 dollars. I'll take it.

I hate to ever be compared to team's in that CUSA wreck. Neither of those teams come close to filling it. BTW stupid we were rated higher than Coosa last year. Tigger moron.
