A Great Champions weekend for Midwestern teams in the lower divisions - Policiious - 12-21-2015 12:00 AM

1) NW Missouri State whipped Shephard (WVA) in the D2 title game held at Sporting Kansas City Stadium 34-7

2) Mount Union (OH) outlasts St Thomas (MN) 49-35 in the D3 title game played in Salem, VA FR 12/18

It was Mount Union's 11th straight appearance, the 2nd time in those 11 that they played St Thomas, besting the Thommies in 2012. The other 9 matchups were with UW Whitewater.

It is one heck of a dynasty at Mount Union and quite a run for St Thomas and UW Whitewater as well who made the Semifinals this year.

3) In the NAIA National Championship, Marian U Knights (Indianapolis) avenged their loss to the Southern Oregon Raiders last year to best them 31-14. This is Marian's 2nd title(and 3rd appearance) in the last 4 years also winning in 2012.

The game was held at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium the home of Bethune Cookman U football.

The FCS TItle game will be between 4 time defending Champion North Dakota State Bison and the OVC Champion Jacksonville (AL) St Gamecocks on Sat 1/9. Should be a terrific game as Jacksonville St nearly beat AUburn earlier this year. But beating a team going for #5 will be very tough.

Would be a terrific season to have champions of each of the divisions all from the Midwest. Ohio, Indiana, Missouri and possibly North Dakota so far.

I don't know what Marian's (NAIA) secret is. I'm working about 2 miles south of their campus. Not long ago I wasn't even aware that they played football.

I have always thought St Thomas could be so much more then a d3 school.

I feel the same about Grand Valley St, the atmosphere and a tradition of winning, should at least be FCS, often think they would be able to become better than all directional schools after a few years in FBS, CMU could compete and would be a lovely rivalry.
