RE: 2017 Hoops Recruiting - Dukeman - 04-05-2016 11:51 AM

Marist said that the real problem was that JMU would not return calls and ignored attempts to collaborate.

This insulted Marist.

At settlement, Maris demanded and received a signed letter of apology from Jon Alger.

How shameful.

Good grief! I bring up something positive and it turns into this?

The Dukes need a 2016 recruit. Let's worry about 2017 after Rowe locks in at least one player that will help in 7 months when the season starts.

I would think if Rowe could get in Shepherd's living room he could close the deal and bring Shepard back into the fold.

whether its shepard or someone else, a point guard is CRUCIAL. I have faith in Mc Clean, but after that who would handle the ball....Morgan? good grief.....Lets get a point guard

Deane in his interview said something about Lou planting the seeds of his vision with 2 maybe 3 scholarships for 2016. He also talked about Rowe wanting to play 4 out 1 in (4 guards/wings 1 big). This is how Villanova plays.

Rowe talked about balancing out classes. BTW I saw that LG Gill- a 3/4 from Duquesne who JMU recruited out of High School (Richmond kid) just announced today that he is transferring and he is immediately eligible. I agree that Shepherd looks like a player and could be good to retain but I'm comfortable with McLean especially if there is a 3 star PG in 2017 behind him. Antwan Walker is a 2016 recruit who both JMU and Bowling Green had offered and a forward as well. I think they have a lot of options at this point even late in the recruiting season with the LOI that they have, the former verbal commit, and maybe a guy on the current roster who may graduate and leave the program. Let's see the work they put in over the next few weeks leading up to the late signing period.

I wouldn't care if Lou didn't renew a couple of scholarships for next year.

I see that Bowling Green offered in 2015. Is JMU about to be sued because dumb-ass did not read Rowe's BG contract?

Oh jeeze!!

Seriously guys, just b/c Matt Brady was a dumb*** and did not know his contract restrictions coming from being a head coach at Marist, that does not apply to everyone.

I would bet money Matt gave JB all the information necessary and most likely offered up the Marist contract for review. If you don't know JB by now, he is above all others, hell, he drinks wine with and lives in the neighborhood with Ron. Just ask him, he'll let you know. Talk to him one-on-one and I guarantee you that he'll want you to think he puts his pants on in a more efficient method than you do.

4 out 1 in is where the game is at now a days...I liked jmu this year with Shak at 4...they did this at Hofstra and it was successful. With our current roster we have too many guys that dont fit in. Therefore perhaps Lukic or Satkus either redshirt for a year or perhaps leave. This would give us opportunity to recruit some wings and balance the classes.

Just my guess and maybe not fair to assume this but I think there is less chance of any red shirts of guys on the roster with a new coach and more a chance that someone may graduate and leave with eligibility. I think Rowe will want to bring in his own guys that fit the system he wants to play. I think it's the perfect situation- there is some talent especially with Snowden eligible for the next 2 and they have veterans but I wouldn't be surprised if of the 2-3 new guys one is a Juco, one is a freshman, and maybe one is a 4 year transfer to help begin to even out the classes going into 2017 and infuse the roster with some more talent.

Bingo.....with Snowden being eligible and Yoyo, Vodo, and Brown being back for the frontcourt - I don't think Lukic or Satkus will fit in or figure to getting playing time going forward. Would not make sense to red-shirt them, but would be nice to have those 2 scholarships back to help with class balance.

7 footer Satchel Pierce transferring from VT......has two years of eligibility remaining I think. That would perhaps be a good get in the CAA, that is some nice size right there.

Dukes have offered a JUCO PG from FL by the name of Vince Holmes from Otero:

Holmes is a 2016 player, but I put it in this thread.

Rowe recognizes immediately that pg/g is a top priority.

Reading the tea leaves it sounds like Shepherd probably won't end up at JMU. I wouldn't be surprised in they release Hollywood from his LOI (not sure how that works if Hollywood wants to stay) and Coach Rowe starts fresh.

JMU was a finalist for Pierce (first team to offer him) the first go around and he visiting the campus before choosing Marquette and then following Buzz Williams to VaTech.

FWIW he was offered by FIU (I believe Rowe would have been the recruiting coach at the time) out of High School as well.

Could be a potential replacement as the Center (after his red shirt) for when YoYo graduates and help YoYo in practice down low this off season.

This is disappointing but we ran that risk when we fired MB.

Let me ask what may be a rhetorical question- would you rather have a kid stay with JMU under a new coach and staff who didn't recruit him maybe in a slightly different system than he was recruited to play in, not be comfortable and transfer a year or two later, or have a kid come in that the new Coach and staff has been recruiting for their system and the kid is 100% bought in?
