NIU Basketball - huskie2379 - 12-02-2015 10:48 PM

Just some thoughts!! Keep winning and students will be there for the spring semester!! Students are all studying for finals now. Also the community needs to come to the games this team is fun to watch!!!

On a side note it was nice to see mission at the game.

On to basketball now. Wilson and Porter will be studs in the back court for this year and the next three years!!

I also like the big guys Bradley and key! If Bradley gets some more size watch out. He can shoot the three and had some decent post moves.

Love this team and hope we can beat Missouri and compete with Ohio state. Can't wait to follow the basketball game while watching the football game! Big day for NIU

Turnout is always better when football is over. Look at last year.

RE: NIU Basketball - zdsmith - 12-02-2015 10:54 PM

Fun game to watch. Compelling enough team that I am considering making the trek out during/after my winter break from school (I work 1.5 hours away)

RE: NIU Basketball - NIU007 - 12-02-2015 10:58 PM

This is more like it! This is what we used to see back in the day. Nice passes on the fastbreak, Iroegbu flying in from nowhere to get rebounds and putbacks, alley oops, interior passing, rebounding. Looked good. Just gotta do better from the charity stripe. I'm glad it wasn't close because Chicago State can drain 3-pointers from NBA distance, and they were hitting free throws way better than NIU.

RE: NIU Basketball - huskie1stdown - 12-02-2015 11:15 PM

I agree. 7 of 16 will not get it done. I never understand why a big guy can't hit free throws. From the time the guy is in 6th grade he knows he will be fouled. Practice Practice and more Practice.

RE: NIU Basketball - Max Power - 12-02-2015 11:18 PM

Nobody made Sportscenter shooting free throws.

Except that granny style shooter guy. Hilarious but effective!

RE: NIU Basketball - dekalb222 - 12-02-2015 11:22 PM

Huskie1stdown, 7-16ft did get it done. Huskies did not shoot free throws well tonight but they are ahead of third opponents on the season 665-576%. That's what all teams strive for to be ahead of their opponents!

Maric was off today, but announcer said he was at 78% on the season before the game.

I know if I was an opponent of NIU's I would want to punch Maric in the face haha. Love how he likes to annoy players on the floor

For as long as I can remember, NIU has had problems with shooting free throws.

While it is finally good to see some wins for NIU basketball, this schedule is atrocious so far. Beating Mizzou and OSU will certainly create a buzz and possibly garner some votes. Keep it up.

Gotta love his energy. He was really trying to get the crowd going. If we very can fill this place, it will get loud.

19 out of 351 programs are still undefeated. NIU is one of those 19. Hooray for the cupcake schedule. First test tomorrow.

RE: NIU Basketball - bikechuck - 12-03-2015 10:19 PM

Trying not to get too carried away because of the weak competition to date. However, this has been a fun team to watch and they are very young. Monty might finally have a strong base from which to grow an outstanding program.

Don't forget though NIU basketball "sucks" if they lose to Missouri

I think the team getting all the confidence with the easy schedule is what the team needed. The confidence is going to really help the rest of the season and " knowing " how to win opposed to other seasons.

RE: NIU Basketball - NIU007 - 12-04-2015 12:07 PM

It's still early but....the freshmen are shooting a combined 72.4% for free throws. Everyone else is at 64.1% combined. Hopefully the FT issue will be mitigated somewhat. I'll miss Chuks athleticism but he's the lowest, shooting 12 for 21 (except for Zelis at 3 out of 7 but that's a small sample).

RE: NIU Basketball - klake87 - 12-04-2015 12:17 PM

If NIU loses to Missouri can I start the "fire MM" thread?

Yes Chuks is definitely not someone you want at the line, Zelis either. The concerns other people posted about Zelis appear to be accurate, he is somewhat soft, but and not real skilled. Hopefully he can mold into something though. My biggest excitement right now and hope for a bright future is A) the assist:turnover ratio I would imagine is about as good as it has been for a long long time, and B) with more scoring options maybe less instances of the extended scoring droughts that have plagued NIU for a decade. Can you imagine if Highsmith is healthy next year and you throw him into this blossoming core. Great things ahead.
