RE: MAC FOOTBALL AWARDS - armour248 - 12-02-2015 11:40 AM

I'm biased but I don't see how Sharpe is first team over Golladay. UMASS threw the ball 140 more times than we did this season and KG was working with Graham and Fiedler for 1/3 of the year. I guess it will give KG something to strive for next year though.

Tajae Sharpe
111 for 1319, 11.9 average, 5 TD

Kenny Golladay
70 for 1107, 15.8 average, 10 TD

RE: MAC FOOTBALL AWARDS - beachboy - 12-02-2015 11:44 AM

KG will be first team next year. In the Golladay-Sharpe vote, stats won over substance. And Sharpe's season is over, while KG has two games to go.

And congrats, Ducee. for being named Special Teams POY. Nice to see NIU sign a kid from Ohio, the heart of MAC country, and have him wreak havoc on the rest of the league.

Completely agree. I thought he was a no doubter on the first team too.

Somehow former Toledo HC Matt Campbell won MAC Coach of the Year. How Carey didn't win it I will never know. He made it to the MACC Game with 3rd and 4th string QB's.

Yeah I think it's more like quantity won over quality. I wonder if the same people vote on this as the preseason polls...the one where we had more votes to win the MACC than we had to win the division. That made a lot of sense too.

I don't get that either unless you're giving the award out based on OOC wins. He lost the two most important conference games of the year AT HOME. But hey, he beat a 3-9 Iowa State team in OT.

RE: MAC FOOTBALL AWARDS - NIU1981 - 12-02-2015 12:14 PM

Corey Thomas should have gotten some love.

I think Rod Carey or Dino Babers should have won it. Now UT has to pay him $20,000 bonus for winning. NIU beat UT with a freshman QB and has this many guys on first team MAC. That leads me to believe that Iowa State hired the wrong guy. NIU is winning and has better players. Matt Campbell is not going to win at Iowa State with the type of players they have, or stealing UT and Illinois recruits. Alex Golesh, the Big Ten recruiter of the year who followed Beckman just bailed and landed at Iowa State to join Campbell.

I still don't think Ness should've been first team last season, but this year I have less of a problem with it.

Had Conlon made all-MAC team at all in the previous 3 seasons?

Golladay should've been first-team no doubt about it.

Only other surprise is Hagan making first team, but his performance vs Toledo might've been the best by a kicker this year, so he had that going for him.

And I told you Campbell would finish higher than Carey would for coach of the year, as big of a travesty as that is.

Yep. He is a stud in the middle. If not for the injury, I could see him being a late round draft choice.

Contact is void. Doubt they'd have to pay anything.

RE: MAC FOOTBALL AWARDS - thehappyhuskie - 12-02-2015 02:48 PM

How Lurry didn't get MAC Defensive Player of the year has me scratching my head.

Agreed - most contracts you need to be employed when the award is announced. If he had waited until tomorrow to accept the positions - for most contracts he would have got paid.

Then again he walked away from $20K and received a $2,000,000 base salary at Iowa State. That is about $5,479 per DAY.

Good point, the contract is null and void if you are not employed.

He bailed several years ago to run the Toledo scout site from what I remember. Not sure if that gig went south for him or if he just decided to check back in.
