There already IS a conference of top G5 teams... it's called the American Athletic.

We tried that before some school got greedy

If the Big12 grabs Memphis, Cincy, Houston, and Temple/E Carolina, that might occur. Why leave out Tulsa, Tulane, and E Carolina?

Why isn't American replacements the topic? Could easily see BYU and MWC schools as being potential targets.

Syracuse wasn't added to the ACC for football, and Maryland was added to the B1G for football either.

He's an AAC fan boy. They have an... "interesting" take on value and a very abstract perception of reality

Not all of them mind you, just some of the more crazy ones

I agree, idk what OP was going for exactly. Also BYU isn't going to join a G5 conference, they've come right out and said it so he's wrong on that account as well

RE: Should the top G5 schools form a conference? - CenterSquarEd - 11-20-2015 10:09 PM

In 2012, the planned lineup for the Big East Conference was going to be:

Boise State (football only)
Central Florida
Cincinnati
Connecticut
Houston
Louisville
Navy (football only)
Memphis
Rutgers
San Diego State (football only)
South Florida
Southern Methodist
Temple

The CFP decided that this wasn't a power conference, so Boise State and San Diego State canceled. Then Rutgers and Louisville left. The rest were joined by Tulane, East Carolina, and Tulsa in The American.

Probably the only way this happens again is if the Big 12 gets raided, and then leftovers try to rebuild something with a lot of these same teams plus BYU.

There was talk that they could have went after BYU, UNLV, Colorado State and Air Force.

Largest budget after UConn.

UNR is the better football product, and also a flagship, and very heavy research institution. UNR is better in football and academics over UNLV. There have been talk that UNR could be favored to join a P5 conference than UNLV because of their academics.
