AUBURN BASKETBALL INJURIES?? - 4thDownBlazer - 10-29-2015 08:29 AM

I read in an article this morning that Tahj Shamsid-Deen separated his shoulder and is out for a month or so. Has anyone heard the status on the other auburn players that were questionable? There was a few I remember that were injury related or academic related that may not play in the UAB game.

I don't know about any injuries, but Trayvon Reed (big 7'2" guy) isn't enrolled this semester and Danjel Purifoy isn't cleared by the NCAA to play yet.

I just checked al.com and TJ Lang is out a couple of weeks with an MCL sprain and freshman Bryce Brown is doubtful for Auburn's first exhibition game.

Yup. They have a real mess down there.

Hopefully we can take advantage of their depleted roster. So in summary, Auburn will be missing:

-Trayvon Reed
-TJ Lang
-Tahj Shamsid-Deen

Likely missing:

-Daniel Purifoy

Potentially missing:

-Bryce Brown

RE: AUBURN BASKETBALL INJUIRES?? - UABslant - 10-29-2015 09:55 AM

I think we beat them with their full roster.

That being said, I still feel like we have a ton to prove before we start talking about us being a good team. Like Coach Haase said, we had one good week.

RE: AUBURN BASKETBALL INJUIRES?? - 4thDownBlazer - 10-29-2015 09:56 AM

I haven't watched much of auburn basketball other than their decent run in the SEC tournament last year, but with their depleted roster I think we should win. I am a little nervous just because its auburn..what do yall think? honestly I bet we will be the underdog by a few points..

RE: AUBURN BASKETBALL INJUIRES?? - blazers9911 - 10-29-2015 10:06 AM

I think until we prove we win on the road we don't deserve to be a favorite. I like what we have coming back, but we have to see where the new pieces fit in. If think a key to this season is will brown be closer to the player he was the last week, or closer to the player he was the rest of the season. Him and Lee really turned it on at the end of the year, if they can sustain that success I like our chances. It's going to be a hostile crowd though, so we will have to see how we handle that.

Purifoy is not even on their official roster at this point. http://www.auburntigers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/aub-m-baskbl-mtt.html. That really stinks for them. He is a big time player. He had 18 points in their scrimmage.

Definitive starters at this point IMO:

Bowers (F 6'7) 12.1 PPG 9.6 RPG
Canty (G 6'1) Transfer from Marshall
Tyler Harris (F 6'10) Transfer from Providence
Random Dude

1 or their top 5 minutes guys from last year will be playing in this game.

This is such an important game. Besides the pr and recruiting aspect, there is a scenario where Auburn gets it together during their weak SEC schedule and ends up on the bubble. In a scenario where an at large spot is between UAB and auburn, we need the head to head victory.

Exactly. They'll be a sub 75 RPI team at the end of the year if they can get all those guys healthy and possibly even get Reed and Purifoy eligible. We'd be in for a heck of a battle if they had all their players. They are going to be a handful for years to come.

They do add what should be two impact newcomers-the #1 JUCO recruit and a 4 star forward that was rated #61 nationally in last year's class.

That would be TJ Dunans and Horace Spencer. Bowers was also the #1 JUCO recruit when they got him. They have talent but very little experience.

RE: AUBURN BASKETBALL INJUIRES?? - HSV_BLAZER - 10-29-2015 10:47 AM

Auburn's best advantage is home court. Our best advantage is roster continuity. Auburn isn't decimated with injuries, but there are some trouble spots. I don't know who will be the backup point and the wings will be pretty thin, but the frontcourt will still be a strength. We can beat Auburn even if they are full strength, and the depth issue tips the scales our way a little more.

RE: AUBURN BASKETBALL INJUIRES?? - UABslant - 10-29-2015 11:13 AM

We stunk it up on the road last year. UAB has a lot to prove in this game.

RE: AUBURN BASKETBALL INJUIRES?? - The Answer UAB - 10-29-2015 12:09 PM

I'm with most of the others. We were abysmal on the road last year. A lot of that can be attributed to youth and inexperience with each other. However, until we prove otherwise, we still suck on the road. On paper, this is a game we should win, and I think we are the better team. But again, the fact this is an away game is a huge deal.

RE: AUBURN BASKETBALL INJUIRES?? - Memphis Blazer - 10-29-2015 12:17 PM

All this talk about the Auburn game. We shouldn't be overlooking that we have an exhibition game next Friday against the mighty Cal State East Bay. Last year should have taught us not to overlook exhibition games.

It's good that they don't actually count for anything.

Looking at East Bay's roster, they do have some height, including a 7'0 senior transfer from Santa Clara University.
