"A 12-year-old California honors student violated his school's dress code for wearing a patriotic T-shirt administrators claim is "gang related," Fox 40 reported Tuesday.

A school official, however, said the red star on the shirt blurs the line between free speech and safety, Fox 40 reported. The star, the school said, is often associated with the Norteno gang."

If not for the fact that these are supposed to be educated people making these decisions this would be hilarious.

Being Kalifornia I feel sure they would have been OK if that red star had a hammer and sickle in it instead of 31.

A lot of 1-12 public schools require students to wear assigned uniforms. That will, eventually, become the norm at all public schools.

The star is part of the California State Flag that is being emulated, and the 31 refers to it being the 31st state

The school official is clearly an honors graduate as that shirt VERY EASILY could be a school uniform.

The red and blue colors are also frequently used by gangs.

They likely did it for the child's safety. We have had gang problems in the past and gang members will attack people who wear their symbols or colors without being in the gang.

and El Paso doesn't consider itself part of Texas. The feeling is mutual.

I wish they could. If New Mexico could annex the land from their southern border down to the Rio Grande, it would make El Paso the largest city in New Mexico and would make them a much bigger player.

Here in Texas, they want no part of us for obvious reasons.

Disagree

The MOST POWERFUL teacher union is in New Jersey.

I promise you, there is no groundwork in making public school students wear uniforms UNLESS you live in the ghetto neighborhoods!
