U of M in Peach bowl - eastcoastDave - 10-27-2015 08:46 AM

One ESPN bowl selection story has Memphis in Peach Bowl vs either Florida or LSU. Not bad if that happens.

These are not the Tigers of old. They be for real. But, Tigers have a lot of football ahead. So as JF says, one game at a time.

Yep, just like Oklahoma destroyed Boise State in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl.

We have a bunch of fans who are somehow tied into SEC schools, via family, spouse or friends. Unfortunately, they are brainwashed into thinking that even a ranked Memphis football team is still incapable of competing against decent competition.

Hopefully, this mindset will start to change over time.

Or just like Bama was supposed to destroy Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl a couple years ago

Out of the SEC, I feel confident Memphis would beat SC, Tenn, Vandy, Kentucky, Arkansas, Auburn, Mizzou. We've already beaten Ole Miss. I think we could beat Georgia, Miss St, Florida and A&M. We could probably at least hold our own against Alabama and LSU. Neither have a strong passing game that would hurt us, but their D's would slow us down.

In the Big 12, we would be the 3rd, 4th or 5th best team this year. We already beat Kansas. We would beat K St, Iowa St, Texas Tech and Texas. We'd be behind TCU, Baylor (maybe different w/ out Russell) and in like with Oklahoma and Okie State.

RE: U of M in Peach bowl - pdlglm - 10-27-2015 09:46 AM

I don't care who we play, if the Tigers go to the Peach Bowl, I am going.

Now do I think they can beat LSU? Nope. But who cares? How cool would it be to have the chance at them?

Really, the match-up I would like the most is Florida. While I was certainly wrong about how good their season would be after Butch Jones gave them the TN game, I can think of few things that would make me happier than the jorts crew losing a NY6 Bowl game to Memphis in their triumphant return to national prominence. Of the possible bowl games to cap this Tiger season, that would be my favorite.

And we would have a chance against Florida.

Baylor doesn't play defense either so a Memphis/Baylor would be a shootout. TCU lost a lot of defensive guys to injuries so that might be a high scoring game as well although it'll be a little bit more difficult

My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure anyone has enough defense to shut our offense down. Including Mizzou.

I am a pretty big pessimist (cue the sarcastic remarks), and even I wouldn't say Memphis would get destroyed against LSU or Florida, or anyone else for that matter. We've won 14 straight and are 7-0! I forgot what it feels like to lose, and it's glorious!

LSU would be tough because of Fournette. But neither LSU nor Florida has what I would call an explosive offense. The team that would scare me most is TCU. If they got hot, we might surrender 60 or 70. Then it's a question of can our offense keep up.

RE: U of M in Peach bowl - tigerlands - 10-27-2015 10:43 AM

Don't we, as fans, don't we want to play Florida or LSU? It beats playing Akron or FAU. I hope we can play the best team out there. You can't beat them if you don't play them.

RE: U of M in Peach bowl - 21-17 Best Time I Ever Ha - 10-27-2015 10:47 AM

Oh, heck, I remember the days when we beat many SEC teams. We can certainly do it again. I would love to see our defense play the damn No. 1 team in this country. This is what we have been working toward, and I guarantee Fuente would agree.

fiesta bowl or bust

RE: U of M in Peach bowl - KendallC - 10-27-2015 10:48 AM

I would love to see us take on LSU. That would be one heck of a matchup. I feel like we could put up at least 40 on them.
