Friend of mine says it went south in the last ten years, pretty ghetto place.

Property is worth more than the business. But I agree, it became dingy and seedy

OH NOOOOO. NO MORE WAYSIDE WEDNESDAYS?!

Where the hell am I going to go on Wednesday before Thanksgiving this year?

RE: Wayside West... - Hiller4Hyz09 - 10-24-2015 10:22 AM

I'll never forget TadFromKalamazoo wiping out on the stairs to the lower level during March Madness. I SWEAR he levitated for about 5 yards.

Too bad. Lot of local landmarks have gone the way of the white buffalo over the years.

RE: Wayside West... - Nacho - 10-24-2015 11:07 AM

Hopefully the developer who bought it does something nice there.

They didn't adjust. While BW3, Roadhouse, and others within spitting distance did.

who among us hasn't spent a night or two that we don't remember at that place?

RE: Wayside West... - goldsworth - 10-24-2015 03:27 PM

I have a scar on my left pinky finger from one fateful Wayside Wednesday in 2003. RIP, Wayside, your ****** beer and your long lines to get in.

But I did see George Mason beat UConn there, that downstairs "sports bar" portion with all the TVs was pretty cool for sports watching.

Wasn't there a bowling alley on the same property until the late 90s or something? Bring back the bowling alley!

This. Prime location on Stadium. Wonder what they're going to do with the place...

Change the name and open up a new bar? IF it's because the bar became too seedy (there was a trailer park behind it down the hill years ago at least), some places just change the look/motif to draw in different customers after 4-6 months of being closed.

But it covers a lot of square footage. Maybe a strip mall if it wasn't worth it even if the customer demographic was good and a lot of people went.

The developer had talked about a strip mall. I suspect a smaller more manageable version of Wayside will open in that venue. Id like a Branns there. The one in Portage has a nice sports bar, good food, great prices. A Chin Chin's would do well there too.

Two things about Wayside I'll never forget:
1. 50 cent drafts
2. Being not allowed in for wearing a Detroit Tigers shirt on a night they didn't have a game (worst rule ever).

A lot of great memories at Wayside. Unfortunate it took a turn for a worse in recent years. Hope the developers do something neat with the building/property. Knowing them, they almost certainly will.

Never heard of rule #2. They probably just made something up because they didn't want you in their bar.

We stopped in on Saturday night for one final visit. Place wasn't more than 15% full, even with alums in town and the news of the closing - thought there may be more there simply for nostalgia's sake.

Needless to say, not surprised it's finally closed.
