A Bit of a Pet Peeve is Developing - Cnelson203 - 10-22-2015 07:37 AM

I may be asking for real trouble posting this, but there is a shortcut, used by some, but by no means all, C-USA posters to refere to the FAU and FIU as the "F_U's"

That's really getting tiresome for me and seems a bit disrespectful, and is fast developing as a pet peeve of mine...of which, I'm sure not many care.

But can we respect our fellow conference mates enough NOT to lump them together. We can't control what others do, but those of us in the conference can surely give both universities the respect they are due.

I live in FL, and it's tough enough to get respect for both schools here. (Try finding ANY sports article on either in our local Tampa papers!!)

I've visited both campuses, twice, and they are FANTASTIC campus facilities. FAU's stadium is top notch at 30,000. FIU's campus is beautiful (so is FAU's). They are each unique, high quality universities in their own right, and I think one day they will be the equal of any C-USA team in any sport. FIU is one of the largest universities in the nation.

Just asking for us to police yourself and refrain from this...if you can.

There...I don't get on a soapbox often on this Board...and I'll get off it now.

It's football season (UAB & UNT excluded) and a level of smack should not only be expected but encouraged as long as it's not over the line. Calling fau and fiu the F_U's is hardly over the line.

A Bit of a Pet Peeve is Developing - owl at the moon - 10-22-2015 08:12 AM

Yeah it was funny way back then when the bottom ten guy co-ranked them every week.
My pet peeve is using the term FAU since it really does lead to lumping the two schools together in your mind, if you're not from Florida.
The media guide from the conference suggests "FIU and Florida Atlantic" to keep them differentiated.

It's football season and smack time so just shorten that to FlaTlantic if you must :)

What a bunch of wimps you sound like the ULaLa posters. You know how people will stop using F_U, become a winner or at least competitive. As for Muts and a new one to me which I will use is UT Mexico, this is a message board and if you announce that it gets under your skin people will use it more. Why do you care what other people think or call your school on a message board with a couple thousand users.

I guess your young and are all into the political correctness. Well I am too old not to say what I think and if it pisses you off well too bad. Like I said earlier, become a winner and less people will make fun of you.

Great post cnelson, and I agree. But it might only happen if some grow up a little...

Can we call you ULL? No one else seems to want to tag that name.

RE: A Bit of a Pet Peeve is Developing - stinkfist - 10-22-2015 08:33 AM

we've been called everything from the golden buzzards to the mustard birds...

I personally think most only use it as moniker like that being applied to one when they acquire a nickname in grade school....sometimes it just sticks....

I get what you're saying, but as one gets older, they learn to let go of PC and just let it fly on by....

this is only a coooo-sa bbs.... 03-wink

edit: changed your to you're for the grammar nazis 03-wink ...seemed appropriate

RE: A Bit of a Pet Peeve is Developing - FlyHawk98 - 10-22-2015 08:45 AM

I'm not going to change what I do just because it upsets you or the F_U fans.

Typing F_U is much easier than typing 6 letters (the abbreviation for both schools.)

I have a pet peeve too....mine is whiny ass people who look for reasons to whine/complain about stuff.

I would respectfully request that you always refer to us as The William Marsh Rice Institute for the Advancement of Letters, Science, and Art.

Thank you
