This was a game I think that turned out to be a transitional game - BK to AK - "Before Keevan (gets hurt) to After Keevan". I think the transition was a success, but only marginally. When a "quality player" goes down, there is a void that needs to be filled by the next guy up at the vacant position, but also that same void is a "call to duty" for the other players at every position to step up. I think we could all see that occurring before our very eyes in this game. First half miscues transitioning to the second half breakout performances on both sides of the ball.

Even Dane "tried" to become that running threat he has "dis-Daned" before now. It wasn't always pretty with the second base slide he takes, but it was enough to win a game against a team we should have beaten and did. The runners seemed to also take up some of the slack and the coaches obviously wanted a very effective run game without our "possible" best receiver gone now. PM played it close to the belt most of the first half by running and running alot.

Again, our FG kick game was inconsistent. That needs to change and if it doesn't turn around soon, we may have to go to the soccer team and recruit a player. We also need a "boomer" to kick that ball in the endzone. Our punter, DP was again a weapon. Long, high and booming. Kept us out of bad field position.

Uniforms - I like them and that "dark" design. I think the players play better at home with dark on, just like we did in MBB under Bill Self.

Tackling - First half was bad to the extreme, second half much better. I'm old school on that and there's just no excuse for it.

QB play - In general it was a "Tale of Two Halves". Bad during the first half and part of the 3rd Quarter and better when the game was on the line. Those batted down passes are becoming a looming problem because of DE's "shortness". Is he really 6-1? Probably not.

WR's - I think we have enough backup talent at WR to develope some of them by committee to be competitive, but wo KL it will be a challenge. I think Hobbs (wasn't that the name of "the Natural?" Roy Hobbs) can become a very good WR because he has the size, speed and moves. We also have a few other older players who CAN make plays if the conditions are right. We'll be fine, but probably not dominant from here on.

Coaching - I think PM wanted to keep it on the ground a lot the first half to give ULM the impression we weren't going to pass and I think it was somewhat successful, but later on we just opened up and did our thing. It worked enough to win.

Matt Linscott is a fantastic player folks. How could he be a walkon?

----Must Win Alert--- Folks we have three "must wins" to reach our goal of going to a bowl - SMU/Tulane/UCF. That is doable, but won't be easy now wo KL. We can do it, but two of those games are on the road.

People, I'm begging you - go to the SMU game and yell like a maniac. IN DALLAS, OCT 31st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game was way.......way to close......not a good game for TU.......in the 2nd half there was no pass rush of any kind. I'll take the win and be thankful......we still have a chance at 6 wins but if this is how we play without KL......we are in a world of trouble!!!

Defensively I saw a lot of positives. We held them to 140 yards and only 7 points in the first half. Only one big play given up the whole night, (the 43 yard run) and three turnovers.

Offensively I saw a lot of negatives. Way too many dropped passes, very average play calling, offensive line was not opening many holes on 3rd and short and poor execution in the redzone.

Special teams, Punting good, Field Goals bad.

I thought Dane had a solid night. If it weren't for 5 or 6 dropped passes and an offensive pass interference in the endzone, he would have had over 70% completion percentage and 4 TD's.

In order to get better, we HAVE to be able to finish drives. We are 97th in the country at red zone scoring... We have 28 red zone attempts and only 12 TD's and only 2 of those are passing TD's... We have to get more creative in the red zone.

Honestly, this game looked a lot like the FAU game. Up until the last two games, I thought we had gotten better each week.

Another observation.......Tulsa looked terrible in the blue uniforms and black helmets......I'm sure for whatever reason some people may have liked them but on TV they looked terrible. It doesn't make us look tough or mean. I know there are some teams around the country that change uniforms almost every week......like Oregon but most of them look ridiculous. I also know tradition is not a cool word today.....but the good teams don't come up with new uniforms every other week!!!

I was waiting for someone to complain about the uniforms.
