CBS Sports Group of Five Power Rankings - mairving - 09-28-2015 02:11 PM

Memphis No.1 but you wouldn't know it by the article title.

Boise State begins ascension to top

Quote:Memphis (4-0) -- American: It wasn't the prettiest performance, particularly on defense, but Memphis passed a major test last week. It beat Cincinnati, and did so on national television while it was the only college football game going on. So a lot of people were exposed to Memphis for the first time, and what they saw was an exciting victory. That can only be a good thing. Last Week: 1

the article basically says that 4 out of the top 6 teams are from the AAC, with both divisions represented. If both divisions are in the top 5 prior to the ccg with each team having a similar win loss record as other G5 teams, then our ccg basically becomes the playin game for the access bowl.

RE: CBS Sports Group of Five Power Rankings - UofMstateU - 09-28-2015 02:30 PM

also, I'm not sure how Boise can continue to ascend. Colorado st and Air Force are the only two mildly interesting games remaining on their schedule. Their byu loss looks worse now after byu lost to ucla and the got blown out by Michigan.

In order for Boise to ascend, they will need aac teams above and below the to lose.

Temple has by far the easiest schedule. They don't have to play Tulsa, Navy or Houston. Houston is the only team that hasn't played a conference game yet. They play at Tulsa this week which is a tough game.

Remaining schedules:

AAC East:
Temple (3-0, 1-0):
at Charlotte, Tulane, UCF, at ECU, Notre Dame, at SMU, at South Florida, Memphis, UConn

AAC West:

Navy (3-0, 2-0):
Air Force, at Notre Dame, Tulane, USF, at Memphis, SMU, at Tulsa, at Houston, Army

Memphis (4-0, 1-0)
at South Florida, Ole Miss, at Tulsa, Tulane, Navy, at Houston, at Temple, SMU

Houston (3-0, 0-0):
at Tulsa, SMU, at Tulane, at UCF, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Memphis, at UConn, Navy

If Memphis and Boise both end with 1 loss I think Memphis gets the nod due to strength of schedule...

And it really doesn't matter which game we lose as long it is not the championship game.

why is Temple playing at 6BC?

Good point

I would say Houston has the most difficult remaining Conference Schedule

While Navy and Memphis would have the most difficult remaining schedules with Navy having Notre Dame and Memphis Having Ole Miss left to play.

Easy win I guess. 6BC lost to MTSU 73-14 but that one was on the road.

I hate that we have to play at Temple again this year, what a set up.

Plus they have to play in Philadelphia again, which is bogus.

The weathers just about gotta be better than it was last year.

I feel like a Boise or Toledo could get the nod just from being undefeated, while the AAC teams will beat each other up. Similar to how Marshall probably would've gotten it last year if they hadn't cooged it.

Boise's not undefeated

Ha...I still think they get the nod by name recognition alone if it's us with 1 loss against a 1 loss Boise

Boise was ahead of them in the last poll before Marshall lost.

RE: CBS Sports Group of Five Power Rankings - Atlanta - 09-29-2015 08:55 AM

I think pollsters have Boise poised to get the slot thinking like most of us that the AAC champ will likely not be undefeated. Boise has a pretty clear path at this point to finish as a 1 loss team & the polls already tell us that Boise with 1 loss will be higher ranked than an AAC school with 1 loss. I think that may even hold if Memphis goes undefeated in the AAC but loses to OM. Don't think it should be that way but Boise just gets the benefit of past years performances where we don't.

Wanted to add that I think, however, we have control of our destiny. We just need to win out, then we are in the driver's seat. And we are capable, but it's tough for OSU (for example) to go undefeated against a much easier schedule IMO, so it just makes us that much worthy if we do go undefeated. We'll see.........

Lucky to have East Division Temple on the schedule. Looks like Navy and Temple will be quality in conference wins if we get them. We'll need those to overcome the "Boise" name IMO.
