Welcome - Slider17 - 09-25-2015 02:26 PM

Hi gang. Just now realized you guys had a board. Welcome to college football and the SoCon!

Just wanted to invite you all over to the Mercer board if you are so inclined.

Being in just our 3rd year, we can relate to what you are experiencing getting the program off the ground. Hope you guys have a successful and injury free season. Looking forward to seeing you down in Macon on Oct. 17th.

Here is the address for our board.

Thanks!

Are you guys going to stay Division I in basketball this year? Heard a bunch of stuff about y'all dropping to NAIA or DII.

We've been D1 forever and we just joined the SoCon last year.

And I can't imagine why we would ever drop considering our track record in basketball since Bob Hoffman took over as head coach. Been a pretty good run so far.

Also, we have a baseball team that was just named one of the Top 100 programs in Division 1, has had 6 straight 35 win seasons, was the SoCon regular season and tournament champs last year, and have been to the NCAA tournament 3 times is 6 years.

In my humble opinion, Mercer University has been a best kept academic secret for many years. Now, the athletic program is finally beginning to catch up some with the rest of the university, especially with the long overdue restart of football.

Thanks Buc. Very kind.

I'm right there with '66. Great school, beautiful campus, great athletic facilities. Glad you all could make the move to the SoCon with us. My father is a Mercer alum, so we always enjoy some light trash-talking any time the Bucs and Bears square off. Welcome to the board Slider!

Oh. New guy hazing. I get it. 03-wink

RE: Welcome - CaptainJackAubrey - 09-30-2015 08:20 PM

I just am being sensitive to other teams in the SoCon. I know with Bennie Lufile subsisting on a steady diet of dead lifts, running stairs, and raw eggs, a lot of teams are hoping to quietly transition to D2 or to quit basketball altogether. And that's OK.

We will be supportive as your team slips silently into the night, settling into an existence in ETSU's shadow hoping just to make it to Asheville for a quick one game blow out.

There's no shame. We're all in this together.
