Enough to have Matt stay on at UT until Urban's ready to leave?

Unless he takes Fickle with him, I'd expect Fickle to get another shot at the head job at OSU.

Dang it. How am I supposed to despise Urban after reading that!

Darn it, and Matt Campbell coached there too!!! oh gosh, now who do I like? And Fickell Will never be a Permanent HC at OSU. Hell he can't even be THE Defensive Coordinator. I would say first choice to follow Urban would be Tom Herman or Matt Campbell depending on where they are at in their careers.

Let me help. It's OK to start at BG ala Campbell and Beckman. They cantrain callow youths for us. Head coach: not OK. Assistants who take the opp to advance to UT are OK.

Herman would probably be the first place they'd go, that makes sense.

Urban never beat Toledo when he was at BG. Meh. we can cheer for him

Are you sure? I seem to remember a game in Urban's first year at BG that was not very competitive. Unfortunately it is easy to remember the victories over UT in recent history! 03-banghead

RE: Urban Meyer, Matt Campbell have unique relationship - rocketinchitown - 09-24-2015 01:24 PM

I lie. Urban won his first year at BGSU against Toledo- Toledo went on to the win the MAC that year even getting thumped at BGSU.

Following year Toledo won at home.

Guess I forgot about the BG loss because the MAC Championship over Marshall was more important.

Without checking I say Yes. What I recall was his last game. We stacked the box and he continued to run the QB about 30 times, gaining very little. We put up over 50, IIRC.

UT won in Urban's last year, and last game at BG, 42-24 at the Glass Bowl. From what I remember it was a close game until Urban called for a fake punt around midfield. BG didn't get it and the game was over from there. I believe that was the night the temperature didn't get out of the teens. I'm sure it felt much colder on the BG side of the field than the UT side!

The 2001 game at BG was a 56-21 BG victory. I don't remember the details going into that game other than BG had lost, I believe, 3 conference games. UT must have already clinched a spot in the MAC Championship Game and I would assume was favored.

RE: Urban Meyer, Matt Campbell have unique relationship - rocketinchitown - 09-24-2015 02:53 PM

I think UT had already clinched hence the shellacking or BGSU just wanted to rain on the parade.

Seems UT has been doing the same to BGSU the last few years while BG has gone on to the championship

If that was Amstutz he decided not to play Bolden who allegedly had recovered from an injury but Amstutz didn't want to risk him with a championship looming, IIRC. I recall a former UT QB being absolutely livid:"If you can crawl you play against BG. No excuses!" I agreed.

Was that the year Brian Jones struggled against BG before having a great senior year the following season?

I think so and I could be wrong but I think that game cost Brian Jones his red shirt or he would have had two years left not one (he was a JC transfer). If I am not confused I believe that is also the game where the UT punter had about a 90 yard punt because once the ball hit the ground it had an extremely strong tail wind that blew it about 30-40 more yards down the field.

I think your right. I remember us punting from our end zone and the ball being downed inside the 5.

That was Brandon Hannum with the 92 yard punt and the ball actually stopped rolling at the 1 yard line. That is a MAC record and there's only been one other punt of 90+ yards in Division 1-A Football since then (Donnie Heaton of The Air Force had a 90 yard punt in 2004).
