What's happening at Rutgers is amazing.
10% of their roster is in jail or bonded out awaiting trial.

Thats what happens when you make the x-OL coach the HC.
He cannot hire a top notch staff.
He takes recruits with questionable backgrounds.
Time to get a $3million dollar coach instead of a $1 million coach.
last year he leaned on the x HC of MD.
The president of Rutgers has NO clue on how to run a major university.

There are plenty of other lower level P5 schools that try to do football on the cheap. Yet you don't see a complete program meltdown. 7 players arrested for violent acts. Home invasions, aggravated assault. These are (allegedly) real bad crimes being committed. This isn't stealing some crab legs. And I'm not even incorporating the attempted grade change controversy. Or the Ray Rice thing. Or the Mike Rice homophobic bullying, or Julie Hermann's abuse. Or Pernetti's firing.
It took Miami almost two decades to shed its image. Rutgers' reputation will be rightly or wrongly sullied as Thug U for a long time and that isn't a good thing for northeastern college football.

Maybe, just maybe, this is a window in the problems faced by CFB at the highest levels. Granted, Rutgers seems to be getting a lot of press lately, but if you dig enough into what happens at most of the schools in Div1a, I think you would not like what you find regarding the general character of a small but significant minority of these kids. Most of the CFB players who have scholarships to play football do not belong at a university. Without football, the majority never make it on campus if evaluated by grades, test scores and extracurricular activities alone.

Whats sad is that we've created a system that requires athletes to go to school to pursue their careers with the two should not be dependent on one another. If you can run a 4.2, with giant hands and can bench press a bulldozer why the hell should you have to pass statistics to play professional football? Greed on the part of the NCAA and the NFL/NBA have resulted in the current system. The NBA and the NFL should create minor leagues just like MLB instead of free farming the college ranks. It would alleviate a lot of the issues now plaguing college sports.

That would be the best move for them I think. His success was the only reason Rutgers was able to get to the B1G and moving on to the NFL, the parting was pretty amicable.

Thank you Miko for speaking some sense and what you said about football also goes for basketball both men's and women's. The reality is until the Flood era began to unravel in 2013, we had a squeaky clean or near squeaky clean program under the later days of Shea and during Schiano. Ray Rice has little to nothing to do with Rutgers it happened years after he left the program.
And 4evah you should try checking your math. 105 kids on the roster 7 of them are out on bail/arrested/indicted/etc. 7/105 = 6.667%
Not saying that's a good thing by any means, but it comes down to people being entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts.
Update: Now its 8 but that still isn't 10%.

There has been a segment of the fanbase/alumni that have wanted him back all along. In the last few weeks, I'm almost wishing for him back myself. Schiano could be a giant PIA, but he ran a very tight ship. I think his NFL time and wilderness time could have taught him a few ways to evolve his managerial style and his skills. That being said my bigger concern is that Flood needs to go, Julie Hermann should be on thin ice at this point unless she really is having 1 arm tied behind her back by Barchi. Barchi is another one who should go, he's gotten the UMDNJ merger started off fine which is all he really was hired to do anyway. They can't be held responsible for off-field incidents, but the undisciplined, uneven on-field play combined with the off-field antics shows me that the Football program for the first time in a long time is a leaderless, rudderless ship. If the "leadership" that's there isn't leading time to get new leaders who can.

Rutgers AD is a dumpster fire.
Almost 50% subsidy, by far the worst in the p-5. Terrible fan support. No accomplishments. No financial support.
I wonder how much longer the B1G can get the state of New Jersey to pay for content they have no interest in. When that comes to an end Rutgers will be the worst investment the B1G has ever made as all that will be left is a underachieving welfare AD with few accomplishments.

Exactly, baseball and hockey have their farm systems (Rookie/A/AA/AAA and juniors/minors respectively) which means that the kids that do go the college route do largely belong in college (they may get into a better school than they might have otherwise but they can hack it) and guess what the game is still interesting and well played. Would casual interest in college football go down some with many of the players not going on to the next level? Absolutely, but we'd have a system that would be far more legitimate.

Yes. In fact, trade schools are the answer for a large percentage of kids going to college today - regardless of socioeconomic background, race or other demographic traits. Universities are in an arms race that goes beyond athletics, but athletics is the front that we can see the easiest. But college costs are far outpacing inflation because the universities are spending large sums of money on projects on campuses. It's a chicken and egg issue because are the universities building to attract more students or are more students pouring in thus requiring the building projects? Probably the latter kicked this whole push off originally because - if you want to amount to anything in life you need a 4 year degree... IMHO, the former now is the dominant mode of operation now. Universities are now building more to try to attract even more students, and as a result you are seeing a disjointed market where high skilled trade jobs go unfulfilled while we see a plethora of Art History, __________ Studies, History and Literature majors working as Starbucks baristas, Wall Mart cashiers, etc. etc...

The NBA has the D-League. The fact that high school prospects still choose college over it is evidence that the NCAA and college appeal.
