-_- Rutgers can't catch a break... the P5 version of Eastern Michigan it seems.

Unfortunately/fortunately it wasn't that kind of inappropriate, but rather about academic progress/eligibility for Nadir Barnwell, a defensive back with Rutgers. That's a secondary violation for the NCAA, but a major violation of his contract's code of conduct.

RE: Kyle Flood - chrisRU - 08-25-2015 03:42 PM

Whatever his intent, just stupid to a) directly email a professor b) from his personal email c) regarding the status of a starter d) when academic support can do the same exact thing within the confines of university rules.

I tend to believe Flood is a stand-up guy who is very talented at demonstrating brain freeze. Probably the case here, but there needs to be some accountability.

RE: Kyle Flood - Nebraskafan - 08-26-2015 03:44 PM

This whole ordeal already passed when it comes to media coverage. It was a big splash news story that didn't hold and was gone by the end of the day.

RE: Kyle Flood - ClairtonPanther - 08-26-2015 07:51 PM

No doubt... I just wanted to give some ole Big East pals some sh*t. Brista et al are great guys.

RE: Kyle Flood - General Mike - 08-26-2015 08:26 PM

Rutgers university and New Jersey in general is the only place in the country that cares about this kind of stuff.

RE: Kyle Flood - Jimmy - 08-27-2015 09:25 AM

Another ginned up controversy. Here's how I see the setup at the Ledger. There are three roles to play covering RU:

1) Straight beat writer, who has to write a negative story every now and then to prove he is independent (Duggan)
2) Muckraker (Sarge, who sold his soul for this gig)
3) Righteously indignant and smarmy columnist (Politi, an alumnus of *ahem* No Classes University).

The current editor (Manahan) is gleefully hostile toward the university. The people over at that rag desperately want this to be a national story.

RE: Kyle Flood - chrisRU - 09-02-2015 10:56 AM

More smoke. Still can't reconcile why Flood felt it necessary to get involved at all.

Quote:Flood was kept in the loop throughout the process and was told that there was nothing that could be done, both of the officials said in separate interviews.

"The communication with him was clear as to the status of Nadir's grade and he still decided he could fight it,'' said one official, who claimed Flood "had a long paper trail of information'' and still contacted the professor.

Another official said: "It was already done and everybody in the program knew it. Kyle was told, 'It's done, leave it alone.' ''

RELATED: Rutgers compliance policy prohibits coach-initiated contact with faculty

Flood could be in violation of university policy that prohibits verbal or written contact with a faculty member, based on a NJ Advance Media review of the document labeled "Contacting Faculty and Academic Officials'' on the school's athletics website.

RE: Kyle Flood - brista21 - 09-03-2015 01:09 PM

At the rate things are going, I wouldn't be surprised to see Rutgers firing Flood next. First the professor scandal which is still being investigated as there may be more to it. Then the mild suspensions for a few players during the season opener (not a huge deal really). And now 5 players being arrested as part of a ring engaging in assaults and home invasions in both off-campus housing and dorm rooms. And it sounds drug related of course. Sounds to me like Flood has lost all control of the program.

RE: Kyle Flood - chrisRU - 09-03-2015 02:58 PM

To me it's disturbing that the AD is the one making comments on the suspensions of the arrested players, not Flood. I would expect *some* sort of acknowledgement from him on it. RU has a muzzle on him and I'm worried there are larger reasons why this is the case.

Kyle Flood - Jimmy - 09-03-2015 03:02 PM

I'm not going to overreact. However, I'm puzzled as to why Peele was allowed to stay with the program after his second arrest in as many years (if I recall, this incident occurred before he was cleared of his assault charge). He should have been gone immediately.

The timing of this is interesting. Why does it take four months to investigate alleged punks robbing probable drug dealers?

Cue the "Schiano to Rutgers" stories in 5...4...3...

For those interested in the arrests.

RE: Kyle Flood - chrisRU - 09-03-2015 03:56 PM

The succession of events is really what will kill Flood at Rutgers. Any of these events in a vacuum would not endanger him, but I do get the feeling like Rutgers is building a case to terminate him for cause.

I would not be surprised one bit if Julie is on the phone with boosters asking for funding for another head coach, one who was not picked by her successor. She's have trouble getting a big name in there, given the perceived lack of support from the administration, hostile press, etc.

PJ Fleck man.

RE: Kyle Flood - chrisRU - 09-03-2015 06:01 PM

This may be why Flood is not commenting on the player arrests.

NJ.com beat writer now saying Flood is also being investigated for what he knew about the players transgressions before they were arrested and, if he knew, whether he properly reported them to the AD.

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2015/09/can_rutgers_coach_kyle_flood_be_fired_without_pay.html

Either there is significant smoke here with Flood or the administration is bending over backwards trying to find a way to fire him w/o pay.

I'm no Flood fan so if he's screwing up royally like I've already assumed he does with regards to actual football operations then let's get him out.

RE: Kyle Flood - General Mike - 09-05-2015 03:01 PM

They kicked everyone off the team.

Listen, do I think Flood knew players on the team were being investigated? Yes. Do I think he knew specifically which players? No. He's not dumb enough to rely on players who might not be there when he would have needed to get others ready.
