Barry Sanders is the best college running back ever. Archie didn't hold a candle to him. They should be switched. Lots of candidates to replace Tebow. Vince Young if you want a similar type QB. If you want a passer, you can just take a pick of USC, Miami or BYU QBs. Other than that, it looks pretty good. RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - bullet - 08-20-2015 06:24 PM Archie is in there because he won two Heismans. But realistically, I would take Bo Jackson, Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams, OJ Simpson and several others over Archie. But I guess two Heismans is worth something. RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - goofus - 08-20-2015 08:01 PM I feel like they should have found a spot for Nile Kinnick, the Heisman trophy winner in 1939, possibly as DB, he still shares the all time Iowa record for career interception. or possibly as a return specialist, for years, he held many records for punt returns at Iowa. He was just one of those guys who was good at everything. Sports Illustrated chose Kinnick as a starting defensive cornerback on its all-20th century college football team. Deion Sanders was the other starting cornerback. The reserve cornerbacks were Rod Woodson, Charles Woodson, Jim Thorpe, and John Lattner. RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - goofus - 08-20-2015 08:11 PM wait, I just read FWAA was founded in 1941, and selected their first all american team in 1944. So why are they picking a 75th anniversary team in 2015? RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - Dr. Isaly von Yinzer - 08-20-2015 08:51 PM Five Pitt Panthers on that list. I'm a little shocked/disappointed that Hugh Green is not on the first team. I'm not remotely surprised that Fitzgerald is on the first team. He was an AWESOME collegian! Larry Fitz was the first player I ever saw where a fade route to the corner into double coverage was a higher percentage play than either a QB sneak or RB dive from the half yard-line. That was surreal but he was completely unstoppable. RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - georgia_tech_swagger - 08-20-2015 09:32 PM Calvin Johnson third team is a joke. Dude was considered for the Heisman catching passes from Reggie Ball. Enough said. RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - polkhigh - 08-21-2015 12:37 AM Randy Moss was insane to watch in college. He left after his sophomore year but that class at Marshall went out as the most winning class in history. 50-4 in four seasons. RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - DavidSt - 08-21-2015 05:50 AM Some of the best QBs, which some where underrated, that is much better than Stabach and Tebow. Ty Dettmer, BYU Doug Flutie, Boston College Kellen Moore, Boise State Jarrod Zabranski, Boise State Colt Brennan, Hawaii Bucky Richardson, Houston David Carr, Fresno State Case Kennum, Houston Derrick Carr, Fresno State Chandler Harnasch, Northern Illinois Jordan Lynch, Northern Illinois Ben Roethlisberger, Miami Ohio Collin Kap, Nevada Tyler Hienicke, Old Dominion (won the FCS version of the Heisman) RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - SuperFlyBCat - 08-21-2015 06:39 AM (08-21-2015 05:50 AM)DavidSt Wrote: Some of the best QBs, which some where underrated, that is much better than Stabach and Tebow. much better than, no. If you are purely a stats guy there are tons of qb's to put on the list. RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - SuperFlyBCat - 08-21-2015 06:40 AM Rod Woodson where are you. RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - swampbear - 08-21-2015 08:19 AM Tommy Casanova, CB and return specialist for LSU in the early 1970's......one of the greatest all around athletes/Football players I have ever seen. Archie Manning, QB, Ole Miss in today's modern Offenses would have blown away records. As a College QB he was as good as anyone. In case you hadn't noticed, the only kind of guy that David is is "G5" guy. Doug Flutie is only on that list as a token. RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - ken d - 08-21-2015 09:19 AM It is strange, IMO, that they picked three QB's who probably nobody would have thought to mention if they had been left off the list entirely. Not sure what they were thinking (or smoking). RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - Frog in the Kitchen Sink - 08-21-2015 09:24 AM Hard with these sorts of lists separating out NFL fame and production from just college. It would also be interesting to see the methodology for selection, as sometimes too much vote-splitting among "more deserving" candidates can result in a "less deserving" candidate making a list simply because he has a hard-core fan base. One of their criteria is that you had to have been on an FWAA All-America team. Interestingly, when the FWAA name an all-star team from 1969-1993, John Elway was their QB, but he doesn't make the top 3 here. Chuck Ealey out of Toledo. Never lost. Record only broken because of the 12 game schedule. Travesty he is not in the College Football Hall of Fame RE: Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All American team - BIgCatonProwl - 08-21-2015 12:13 PM (08-20-2015 12:11 PM)Hokie4Skins Wrote: FWAA"s 75th anniversary All American team 1st, 2nd and 3rd string Here's the listSome of these folks IMO were inserted on the team based on their NFL performance not the CFB performance. They may well have been great players in CFB but not the best in CFB at the time IMO. |
