With the USNWR rankings due to come out next month where do you see your school placing

Move up

Maintain current ranking

Move down

Please explain your rationale

East Carolina use to be in the Top 200 and ranked they need to find a way to get in there. Not being ranked is a terrible thing for the school.

no clue...we jump 20-30 spots up and down on a yearly basis

UH has invested a ton, admission has gotten hard, funding went up...but all of those things were happening last year and we still went down

The rankings take time to adjust as they are not one year averages, not to mention everyone is investing.

110, tied with South Carolina.

i was talking more to the level UH is, anyone who has been to UH over the last 5 years will tell you its not the same campus, every thing has been rebuilt

our funding has gone way up, we went from a commutter school to the second largest dormed facility in texas, not even including how half the old school facilites were completely rebuilt and ton of new ones. the city even started investing in the school and fixed the roads, even built a railway to connect UH to downtown which opens in 3 weeks..not mention mention being recently classified as tier one university by the Carnegie foundation

we were in the low 160s last year, i was expecting with everything that was happening for us to jump some more ....we lost almost 20 spots

RE: A little education fun! - BearcatsUC - 08-17-2015 03:28 PM

I don't want to jinx it, but Cincinnati is up 35 spots over the past 5 years. Applications have been going up 10% year-over-year for the past several years, ACT scores have been steadily increasing, student retention is up, and President Ono has certainly made the rounds with other college presidents, so there's no reason to expect any downward trend.

Cincinnati has awesome leadership, so I expect the upward trend to continue.

We hope up - with an AVERAGE SAT that is now 1310. When you get close to 50 its very hard to advance though, since every school in front of you is great and trying just as hard to advance. Also its a running five year average in each category, so it is hard to move much in any given year.

I am going to guess we gain a bit more on UT, further secure our spot as the third best University in Texas behind Rice (far and away the best) and UT (barely in front of us). A&M is dropping back - would guess Baylor passes them soon and TCU also pretty soon. They are just not improving student quality at all. Strange since you would think the athletic success would help them somewhat.

UH has definitely improved things, but i don't see them moving up much until their student quality improves. Still too easy to get in - they don't turn down anyone really.

Always curious to see where Houston and Memphis raka s they are similar to GSU. I think our six year grad rate holds is back. When you have a lot of working students who go part time it happens.

Big News (Literally) as UC Readies for New School Year

Overall enrollment is projected to be another all-time record, and estimates show the incoming class of freshmen could be one of the University of Cincinnati's biggest, smartest and most diverse. Major renovations to Nippert Stadium are nearly complete.

There's plenty of big news to share as the University of Cincinnati gears up for the start of fall semester on Aug. 24.

Projections call for another record-setting overall enrollment and significant gains in diversity, academic profile and retention. Plus, the big-time update to historic Nippert Stadium is on track to be completed for the Bearcats' home-opening football game Sept. 5.

Renovations to UC's historic Nippert Stadium are nearly complete. (Jay Yocis, UC Creative Services)

This year is expected to be the third consecutive overall enrollment record for UC. University estimates anticipate enrollment to hit 44,000, topping last year's all-time mark of 43,691.

UC's final enrollment will be reported to the state in mid-September. In the past 12 years, UC has seen a steady climb in enrollment, going from 34,364 in 2004 to last year's high point.

There are several other potential records for Uptown Campus baccalaureate degree-seeking freshmen in 2015, according to early projections:
First-year retention rate: 87 percent (up 0.5 percent last year and nearing the target of 90 percent set for UC's bicentennial in 2019)

Average ACT score: 25.7 (up from 25.5 last year; nearing the target of 27 set for 2019)

Average SAT score: 1163 (up from 1153 last year)

Average high school GPA: 3.471 (up from 3.458 last year)

National Merit/Achievement Scholarship recipients: 50 (up from 48 last year; nearing the target of 60 set for 2019)
Beyond these records, UC estimates there could be other noteworthy and statistically significant increases in other areas:
An overall 2.6 percent increase in freshmen students of color for a total of 20.6 percent, compared to last year's 18 percent.

An overall increase (137 students) in international students for a total of 3,330, compared to last year's 3,193.

I don't understand the new SAT scale. 2400 is now the perfect score? So is 1,300 the old scale? Cincy's average is 1160, but that doesn't mesh with the average ACT score of 25.7.

I'm assuming they're just taking the math/reading sections @ 800 points a section. 1160/1600 is a fairly decent score, especially for an average.

2400=perfect SAT score, but no one uses the writing section, so people still go off of 1600.

36=perfect ACT score

We have a ton of momentum. It will be nice to crack the Top 100 in the next decade or so.

I'm sure you figured out that I meant to say an *ACT* score of 25.7, not SAT score.
