JMU & Liberty options if Coastal, EKU or NMSU join SBC - NewTimes - 08-16-2015 01:21 PM

What will JMU and Liberty do if the SBC expands and neither school is considered and invited as the "unnamed school" that has been bantered around?

Will JUM sit tight and remain in the CAA? Will JMU consider joining LU if LU seeks an indy challenge? Will JMU consider a FB only FBS alignment with LU and others? Will JMU continue and wait in hopes of a C-USA or MAC invite?

JMU will effect the position of Liberty either by remaining status quo or being pro-active as LU will effect the position of JMU by it's future actions. Two schools, with very different positions, but seeking the same goals are linked, for better or worse. A safe bet is that LU will challenge the indy status if a SBC invite goes to either EKU or CCU and if NMSU gets a full invite. What will JMU do?

JMU would never, ever challenge the rule because independent football is an impossible task unless you are super flush with money and even then its a huge risk. No bowl tie ins, impossible scheduling. JMU had the option of the Sun Belt, and took a steaming dump on the league. I would think even the JMU admin given the choice of Sun Belt or Indy (only two options) would take Sun Belt 99 out of 100 times.

Everything we have read seems to indicate JMU will be patient and take a CUSA or MAC offer if/when comes if it makes sense still when time arrives. Or they may just stay in the CAA if the leagues are no longer appealing by time they offer JMU.

JMU should consider FBS FB only options, but they likely don't exist. Bourne has stated they want to move for all sports and FB only relationships usually do not work.

Isn't there some hope. I understand your frustration but wouldn't something change if LU took the indy status challenge lead?

Not sure if you were aware of this, but there's another thread right under this with over 2 million views on this topic.

I read your strong statements, but as a Spider fan, your convictions and thoughts may be other than what JMU fans want, and what the admin states. A better question of being indy vs. SBC may be, is it better to remain FCS than FBS indy? Thinking outside the box, it may be equal or better to be indy if there are others that share similar views, especially in scheduling.

I still say bring Liberty into the CAA. They're a great program, and given that we aren't going FBS I'd like to get the best possible FCS programs possible in our conference.

We know what the fans think, read the Newest Conference Rumor thread. As of now what the fans think (at least the vocal majority on the board) is not going to matter, and there is no reason to expect that to change anytime soon.

Liberty most likely will not accept an CAA or SoCo invite, although higher rated FCS conferences. The incremental move up from the Big South Conference could be viewed, by those conferences LU is seeking membership as an acceptance of FCS. Most LU fans have stated on the LU forum it's invite or the indy route, not CAA or SoCo or any FCS conference.

What is predominate discussions on threads changes as any news, rumor, blog, article, press release occurs. Many JMU fans, justifiably so, feel they have been lead by weak leadership unable to make decisive and wise decisions.

Any FCS to FBS shift (CCU,EKU) will rekindle all the discussion of "what if" scenarios for both JMU and Liberty. It's too restrictive to state that past threads will be the future rules.

JMU leaders don't want FBS unless it's absolutely perfect, ie AAC.

They would never go independent.

You're wrong. Please stop putting out misinformation with no backing. The fan base would like to understand JMU's actual position. What you're saying is purely conjecture on your own part. In short, STFU.

RE: JMU & Liberty options if Coastal, EKU or NMSU join SBC - NewTimes - 08-16-2015 04:58 PM

It would seem likely if Coastal, EKU got an invite to the SBC, that would spark some sort of action by JMU. Sitting pat longer when App St, GaSo and ODU have FBS memberships, and if LU goes the indy path, just doesn't seem conceivable that JMU would stand still.

Doubtful. It is too risky and expensive.

STFU? How old are you?

JMU will never go FBS unless revenue increases. FBS as an independent is prohibitively expensive.

Ask your DC rep what the perfect fit is. I hate to be spreading the truth, not conjecture.

A little OT- but FWIW I'm on vacation this week down the Jersey Shore. I recognize that this is JMU's geographic alumni footprint and maybe I'm conditioned to be more aware of JMU things around me than other schools but what flag do I see waving next to an Ohio State and University of Miami flag by a Jersey shore house- a Dukes flag. Have to say it made me feel good to see the Dukes flag waving in the wind next to two BCS powerhouses. IMO JMU has an "It" Factor in terms of interest. Its not the first sign of the big fan following that JMU Football has that I have observed in places along the Northeast- Saratoga, Long Beach Island to name a couple. I've never seen App State or ODU or Georgia Southern up this way- I haven't seen Delaware or Villanova either. Maybe it's a regional thing but I really think a conference like the Mac or even dare I say the AAC is missing the boat on JMU. Despite the fact that others "have passed us by" and some still refer to us as "a small school" or "tiny JMU" the Dukes have a good rep through the Mid Atlantic and Northeast.

I don't believe you're at the shore. Post photos of 10 guidettes on the beach to prove it.

Totally agree with you. If DD thinks you're wrong he's clearly not paying any attention whatsoever. We've got leadership that's scared of its own shadow- odds of them rolling the dice and going independent are next to zero.

RE: JMU & Liberty options if Coastal, EKU or NMSU join SBC - Longhorn - 08-17-2015 06:56 AM

TX, really? Come on...think whatever you want about the administration's decision making abilities (I happen to think they're sound), but don't equate a conservative approach to making major decisions with any decision NOT to go independent. Such a decision would be pure folly and certain suicide.

RE: JMU & Liberty options if Coastal, EKU or NMSU join SBC - NJDuke97 - 08-17-2015 07:15 AM

2Buck- not that part of the Jersey shore but I'll try to post the picture of the JMU flag if I can.

Say what you want about JMU's decision making but when JMU does announce a move to FBS they will automatically fly by all of the programs who have "passed us by". They will be as FBS ready to hit the ground running as any program that has ever made the jump. The new locker rooms are just a small example of that.
