Buffalo bowling? Could it be? And they're the only team projected to go up against a P5 team...lol

RE: CBS Jerry Palm Bowl Projections - HuskieJohn - 08-12-2015 02:57 PM

Buffalo make a bowl with a first year coach after the year they had? UB fans what say you?

BGSU, Toledo or WMU would be in that game.

I would pay to see WMU/PJ vs NC St/DD

Sounds good to me!

But I also like the projected matchup against Memphis in Boca Raton. I think I could handle that.

Boca looked like a nice trip. This year its a much better game being on the 22nd instead of the 23rd. Gives you a buffer day to get home for Christmas incase the weather is bad.

That would be awesome.

For those who aren't aware of the significance of a potential NCST/WMU matchup, NC State's head coach is Dave Doeren, who coached NIU from 2011-12. Fleck was rumored to be the other serious candidate for the NIU head coaching gig that Doeren got and was hired to be NIU's offensive coordinator for the 2012 season, only to resign a day after accepting the job to go back to Tampa and become the Bucs WR coach.

Needless to say, neither Doeren, nor then NIU AD Jeff Compher, nor the NIU players, were particularly pleased with the way that went down, so you'd better believe if that matchup ends up happening, Doeren's gonna be licking his chops to get after PJ and WMU.

The year they had?

Look I was not happy with 2014 but had Kent's equipment truck not gotten lost we win six games last season (still not B.E. because two FCS). I can see six wins here and the MAC does have a backup agreement for that Bowl.

So lets say the MAC fills all it's Bowls, UB wins 6, and there is an open spot in Detroit which is pretty close to Buffalo...

Im assuming those schools all get one of the MAC's fixed Bowl. Those bowls get to pick first.

I know the MAC bowls get to pick first but I would expect the Detroit Bowl to ask for the remaining one of these 3 teams if they are not picked for the first 3 bowls. I doubt the Potato or Montgomery bowl care what MAC team shows up.

Plus those 3 teams would love a chance vs a P5 team.

RE: CBS Jerry Palm Bowl Projections - UofToledoFans - 08-12-2015 09:12 PM

If Toledo already beats Iowa State or wins the MACC in Detroit, we wont want to go back. Or even if we lose in Detroit. Boca nor Bahamas have had UT and so either are my pre season prediction.

Honestly does it really matter what bowl game it ends up being for each team, they are all the same crap

For a prediction? They don't matter much.

For the fans when the season is over? It matters a little bit where "your" team goes. Some are cheaper than others.

For the team's reputation? It matters a ton! Recruiting grounds, resume, money!? If you don't think this matters, then I guess you can throw NIU's Orange Bowl game out of the window, if they're all the same anyways. Heck, Toledo is as important as Ohio State. All we did was win the same bowl game!03-drunk

Unless you are playing in one of the new years days bowls, the other 36 or whatever it is are less than meaningless

You realize that NIU's loss to Marshall in a non-new years day bowl cost the MAC 2mil right?

NIU dropped the ball. Rocco and the boys will be by. Just have it in plain and unmarked new bills in a suitcase.

From the playoff payout to the G5. If NIU won vs Marshall the MAC would have been ranked 2nd in the G05 pot instead of 4th behind both CUSA (Marshall) and AAC (Memphis). Each spot was reported as a 1mil difference in pay to the conference.

I said over and over on the main board that last year's bowl game vs Marshall was a rare exception where a bowl game felt like a post-season game because you could make-believe that the game was actually a fair reward for both school based on their seasons. This type of setup is obviously a rare anomaly, rather than the rule. It was an important game no doubt. I am talking about the bowl system as a whole with the pre-arranged matchups, they are less than meaningless.
