Fans sound silly when they cry about coaches leaving. No coach switches jobs without pissing fans off. Can anyone really argue Dantonio, Kelly and Jones did not make the right move? Every fan base does it and it all sounds like it is read from the same script. In the moment it makes sense since the emotions are so strong and fresh...but years later? Speaking of BK, looks like he still thinks about us. Check out the helmets in his basement.

It is interesting that the helmet happens to be the cursed white one. You know the one introduced before the game he ditched, the Sugar Bowl.

If you look carefully the black one is right next to it.

BK should put that white helmet where the sun don't shine 04-jawdrop

In all fairness, I have given BK a pass on his end of 2009 exploits. Maybe it is the years gone by or temperament through age, but he is not my most hated coach of the three. The order goes: 1. Dantonio 2. BK 3. Butch. Dantonio left and did not coach the bowl game. If memory serves me right, he required all coaches to follow him to MSU or they would be fired. He showed no loyalty to UC. BK stepped up coached and won the bowl game. BK also left, but I think it was a struggle for him. He left some coaches to work the bowl game. I never got the feeling that he used us to the greatest extent and quickly moved on. Lastly, I have no problem with Butch. The interview process did not sit well, however that is the nature of the beast. Someone also mentioned that he keeps UC gear in his Tenn office. I think that means something.

Agree with the order.

Not only did Dantonio refuse to let any of his staff stay behind to coach the bowl game but he also immediately began actively trying to persuade a few select UC players to transfer to Michigan State. Thankfully Kelly and Jones were both above each of those things. The one thing that didn't sit well for me with Kelly was he didn't have the guts to tell the team himself he was leaving. He never addressed them at any point. He just picked up and left.

You better recheck your BK facts on the Sugar Bowl. He left like 4 coaches with Quinn being interim HC. Quinn spent most of his time interviewing for Buffalo. He left us in total disarray.

At this point, who cares? All three of those guys are responsible for building and/or maintaining UC Football while they were here. Without Dantonio and Kelly, where exactly is UC Football? I'm guessing in worse shape.

I don't recall anyone feeling bad for coaching staffs when they're fired in the middle of a season or prior to the bowl game for poor performance. That tends to leave the program in total disarray too.

I remember a few people being upset when we fired Minter. People said we did not give him a chance to coach and recruit in the Big East. Richard Skinner said UC would never get a coach better than RM to come here.

I liked Rick Minter, even though he was the king of the wtf loss. I am old enough to remember the late 80s and early 90s. The difference between 1991 and 2002 was enormous. Who honestly would think, we would ever be in the Orange or Sugar even if Bear Bryant was coaching.

So can I take this to mean you feel bad for Michigan firing Rich Rod or Hoke?

No, you should take it to mean that coaches leave voluntarily and involuntarily all the time.

You can't get mad at coaches who leave before the regular season or meaningless bowl season ends when schools fire coaching staffs during the same time period on a regular basis.

As long as the coach or school fulfills the obligations of the contract (read: pays the buyout), everything is fine in my book.

Preseason CFB Coaches Poll - BearcatnKY - 08-13-2015 04:43 PM

I don't think you can call it "meaningless bowl season" to a 12-0 team playing a nationally known powerhouse Florida at the time. Sure, it might not of made a difference in outcome. But if it did UC's perception may be slightly different today.

I wasn't referencing that game in particular, but I consider the championship game (and now playoff games) the only game that really mattered. Every other game during the bowl season was just consolation.

I figured you had a soft spot for Hoke. He is a Michigan Man after all. I personally do not get mad if a coach leaves before the end of the season or bowl. I probably did at one time, however coaches do this all the time. My only issue is all the preaching about family and high moral standards talk, only to sell out a group of youngsters for a higher check or more fame.

Cincy has had some really good coaches in past years but I believe Tuberville will do better than any of them.

I agree with this generally. But when every single day is a perception battle, those games are extremely important. Cincy is in a real conference or continually ranked if they win their BCS games.

Just today I was battling with idiots on reddit who were shitting on Cincinnati while pretending schools like Michigan, Penn State, Texas, or Florida had good seasons in the past 5 years and deserved to be continually ranked pre-season (they have all had 1 good season in 5 years).
