thanks bluto. it pains my heart that most of our so-called fans on this board don't care about the good things that our student-athletes accomplish. most of them only show up when there is a negative story.

im gonna do my part to make sure everyone is aware of the good things that are happening in our athletic department

First off, way to go Tigers! Great job!

Second, in your opinion, which ranks higher in importance when it comes to conference realignment - academic reputation or basketball? We all know football (and money) drive the boat, but it seems like you hear academics brought up more in the conversation than basketball strength or weakness.

Follow the money. Which produces more of an income stream for a university, and a conference? Athletics, or academics?

Academics are great, and should be the highest priority. But the Anthropology professors at Notre Dame don't draw 100,000 people to watch them teach.

With regard to "power 5" cartel conference realignment, definitely academic prestige, because university presidents have the last say.

yeah.......and while we're on the topic it might be a good idea for you to make yourself scarce until this conference thing is settled

I know this for certain, if the academics were a problem, it would be likened to the Titanic by the anti tiger fans in regards to the program.

Good question. Let's see which schools have the largest endowments. (Oh, and BTW it's spelled excellence in the OP's subject line.)

Yeah, but if you were SEC, you'd be on the honor roll.

"not bad for a tigahhigh grad"

You went to Whitehaven?

RE: Tigers Lead Conference In Academic Excllence Awards - 72Tiger - 07-30-2015 07:57 PM

Research grant money can dwarf anything that athletics brings in. Add an academic endowment in the billions, and throw on state funding money in each year's budget. Oh, and tuition from actual academic students, and all the power 5 money possible starts to look puny.

Nothing wrong with bringing in money with athletics, but it's not the end all be all.
