Cecil the Lion Killed - SayWhat? - 07-29-2015 11:49 AM
There is more to this story about extradition and who might prosecute those involved. It turns out he did not have a legal permit, and he bribed the locals and the guide who knew the lion was a celebrity of sorts. He paid $55K to hunt and kill the lion. It was the unusual black mane that he wanted. It will also involve the 12 to 20 lion cubs that will most likely be killed by a new male which will happen at some time in the near future. There were two male lions protecting the pride, but they said the younger male will most likely be ran off or killed if he tries to take on the new incoming male.

I have no problem with hunting deer, elk, etc. but this is really f'ed up.

I worked with a guy who killed two lions on a hunt like this. He actually considered it sport.

Yeah, the downside to that was the lions got killed after they ate the guy, though. Upside to the Romans: their criminals got killed for entertainment. Downside: they killed animals for entertainment too.

That was sport not so long ago.
Yeah, the downside to that was the lions got killed after they ate the guy, though. Upside to the Romans: their criminals got killed for entertainment. Downside: they killed animals for entertainment too.

Maybe as a warmup. I have no issue with hunting for food, or fishing, but the animals are worth more than this guy.

As an avid hunter, this makes my blood boil. I enjoy hunting deer and waterfowl because we keep the population under control and we harvest everything we kill. Never in my right mind would I consider killing an exotic animal for any reason especially if that animal is close to being an endangered species . These people give hunters a very bad name
