All Time (current team members) SBC Team - CatMom - 07-16-2015 07:41 PM

Hey, it's still the off season. I'm going to gather info on each position then have a poll, to get the finalists, for the best player to come out of every (current) SBC team by position, then compile a first and second team.; as voted by the intellectual and intelligent fan base we have here on the SBC forum. Maybe we'll pin it (if I get full mod approval).

I'll give 2 days for everyone to add their candidates for all time SBC players.

For the new teams (including UTA) the guy can be from any year(s), regardless of FBS entry. The team is now here and they still played for that U.

Please give us the name (probably most will be recognizable), school and any stats you feel like throwing out there.

We'll start with the O and the general on the field, QB.

Nominations will end at midnight Saturday (July 18). New position threads will start while the voting for the closed one is taking place.

(Current players excluded as their college careers are not over. Things can happen...as Mike Orakpo)

Gonna go ahead and get this out of the way quick: Armanti Edwards. Only two time winner of the Walter Payton Award (FCS Heisman), two national championships, four conference championships and at the time, the only player to ever throw for 10,000 yards, and rush for 4,000 in college football history.

ULM will say Stan Humphries, Bubby Brister, and Kolton Browning for QB entry. Humphries is Super Bowl QB and 1-AA National Champion.

QB #8 Tracy Ham CFB Hall of Fame Inductee, also in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame I believe, 2 Time 1 AA National Champion, 1 of only 2 retired numbers at Georgia Southern. I won't bore you with any more info though, just ask a long-time stAte fan. lol

RE: All Time SBC Team - Scrotumus - 07-17-2015 10:48 AM

So are we nominating anybody that ever played for a 'Belt program or do their careers have to have taken place in the 'Belt for at least a year?

Obviously Edwards and Ham never played in the Sunbelt or in 1-A/FBS. The other nomination this would affect would be Adrian Peterson, who is statistically the greatest CFB running back ever but he never played in the 'Belt or in 1-A/FBS. Dexter Coakley would be another example... he was pretty much defensively what Peterson was offensively.

A consummate leader, quarterback Tracy Ham led Georgia Southern to two consecutive Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) national titles in 1985 and ’86 – all within the school’s first three years at the FCS level.

Ham, who currently holds 20 game, season and career records and 21 playoff game records, ranks first in all-time career passing yards and total offense at the school. He is also GSU’s career leader in passing touchdowns. A versatile threat, Ham racked up over 3,000 career rushing yards, placing him sixth in the Eagles’ all-time rushing ranks.

Named First Team All-America in 1986, Ham’s incredible athleticism landed him in the nation’s ‘Top 20’ in passing efficiency, scoring, total offense and rushing during his senior campaign. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1987 NFL Draft and went on to play 13 successful seasons in the Canadian Football League, including two Grey Cups and league MVP laurels in 1989.

Probably one of the nicest guys in athletics I've ever met. Glad to have such a superb professional work for our Athletic Department.

Great player, but wouldn't that be App State history? I don't recall Edwards playing in the SBC.

I'm confused, is it the all time SBC Team or just an all time team?

RE: All Time SBC Team - BurlingtonApp - 07-17-2015 11:59 AM

Under the rules in the OP, he qualifies. It just said any player that's played for a program that's in the SBC.
