Kickoff Discussion (2015) #5: Southern @ LaTech - Cnelson203 - 06-22-2015 08:13 AM

In terms of Saturday games for C-USA's opening weekend, we'll start those discussions with Southern Jaguars @ LaTech Bulldogs.

Southern is from the SWAC and had a very decent year last year at 9-4, with an 8-1 conference record, although they lost in their rematch with Alcorn State (a team they had beat earlier) in the SWAC title game. Other than those basic facts, I don't know much about them.

I can't imagine, fathom or expect, that LaTech will have another mis-fire at home against an FCS school like last year's loss to Northwestern State. I'm sure the coaching staff will provide no shortage of reminders to the Bulldogs, and frankly, I just think LaTech is better this year than last year in terms of consistency. A loss to the Jaguars is nearly unthinkable.

I see this as a blow out, and a good tune up for new QB Jeff Driscoll. While I'm not generally a fan of FCS games, except for in-state rivalries like this one, it is a good up-front, tune-up game for what should be a very good Bulldogs team.

I see a 45 -7 blow out for LaTech in this one.

If Tech doesn't let Southern hang around, it should be a blowout. Glad this is game 1 and not 4, no way to be overconfident in your 1st game. Tech has proven it's capable to blow out or lose to anyone but I think they will squeak by.

We do not need any losses to FCS schools in our conference, but especially not from schools we expect to contend for the title game. I have no doubt the La Tech team will come out pissed off and ready to put on a show.

41-13 La Tech

The FCS team we lost to last year (NW State) beat Southern 51-27 last year. Southern also lost to ULL 45-6 last year (a team we beat by 4 TDs). This should be a blow out... but that's why they play the game.

Famous last words. Been watching my Bulldogs for 40+ years. We will beat teams nobody expects us to beat and lose games nobody expects us to lose.

Just play...and play pissed off.

Ok -- should be -- no contest.

This should be easy. LaTech by, at least, 3 TDs.

I won't take any games for granted. In dykes first year we only beat Grambling by 2 TDs. Then central Arkansas took us to OT the next year when they had that dick at QB.

Easy win for Tech and perhaps a record crowd as well.

I agree there should be a record crowd but the score will be close based on tradition.

Record crowd but Tech should handle Southern easily, if not it might be a long season. I believe this is going to be a special year for Tech. I will re-visit this post before we go to an access bowl. 03-lmfao

Glad this game is going to be on TV and with a 7PM kickoff I really want to see the new endzone facility and crowd. Can't wait to watch it live.

According to Techs official site the seating capacity of their stadium will be 27,100
when their re-make is completed this summer. They should reach that capacity easily and then utilize the area around the embankment in North end zone for any overflow. If they cant fill it with Southern then its doubtful one will ever see all of the seats full at one time.

Southern didnt beat Alcorn at all last year. As a matter of fact they got blown out during the regular season 56-16 and lost by 10 in the title game. Southern was missing about 17 starters for the first four games of the year last season.
