OT: NCAA Violations at North Carolina - USMSTUD - 06-04-2015 02:24 PM

UNC released the notice of allegations from the NCAA today. Five Level 1 infractions, including lack of institutional control.
Hope the NCAA drops the hammer on them and takes away wins and the NCAA championship they won with players taking those sham classes.

Please change the title of this thread. The only thing actually named "UNC" is our state university system, despite what the ESPNs of the world think. The campus in Chapel Hill is officially "UNC-Chapel Hill"........and yes, it matters to those of us on other system campuses.

I seriously doubt that happens even though I am hoping and praying it does. UNC-Cheater Hill will probably get a slap on the wrist. NCAA doesn't want to mess up that Duke-UNC basketball rivalry and the money that can make.

Poor UNC-Asheville. We hardly knew ye.

Possible but what everyone really wants isn't going happen...Roy Williams' head on a platter.

Burn it to the ground! Too bad it won't happen.

RE: OT: NCAA Violations at North Carolina - HerdZoned - 06-04-2015 07:40 PM

UNC-Ashville, Greensboro or Charlotte better watch out, someone's going to get the death penalty for these allegations.

RE: OT: NCAA Violations at North Carolina - TheDancinMonarch - 06-04-2015 07:48 PM

Being the fair-haired UNC they will probably have to wear green uniforms in three games of their choosing next season. The symbolism of the green is for your individual analysis.

i'd love to see the tar heels take it up the culo. almost as much as i'd love to see the uk wildcats crash and burn.

schools like these two have been able to cheat like hell-o with impunity forever.

i'd love to see roy williams take some heat as well.

but these programs are like the banks too big to fail. they may smack them on the wrists but i expect no major sanctions.

No shame in getting mercy ruled by a professional team. Please give this POS entity the death program. Such a fraud.

This has been discussed adnauseum. Webpages use "unofficial" abbreviations and people use them as well----no doubt. However, it doesn't make them any less inaccurate. If you look closer at that page you linked, you will also see "UNC-Chapel Hill" (the correct and official name of that school) and "Carolina" (not an official name) used.

The official name of the university is:

The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill

It was founded as:

The University of North Carolina

But then in the 1960's "The Consolidated University of North Carolina" was founded and gradually took control of all state supported colleges over the next decade. They renamed "The Consolidated University of North Carolina" to "The University of North Carolina System" and that is when Chapel Hill added the "- Chapel Hill" to it's name. Ironically it was the renaming of Charlotte College to "The University of North Carolina at Charlotte" that caused this name change to happen.

Note* It's the only "UNC" prefixed institution to use "-" instead of "at". This was done so that they could retain legal rights to use "The University of North Carolina" and "UNC" for athletics purposes.

The sooner we distance ourselves from the "UNC" prefix on our name the better. It's past time we were renamed:

The University of Charlotte

http://www.northcarolina.edu/?q=about-our-system/220-years-history

Quote:The 1931 session of the General Assembly redefined the University of North Carolina to include three state-supported institutions: the campus at Chapel Hill (now the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), North Carolina State College (now North Carolina State University at Raleigh), and Woman’s College (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro). The new multi-campus University operated with one board of trustees and one president. By 1969, three additional campuses had joined the University through legislative action: the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

That is totally separate from the Athletics side of things (ie; NCAA). That is for the University's "accreditation".

As expected, a whole bunch of nothing.
