He's always said he wanted to coach in the NBA. So it's not a surprising move, considering he played in Chicago, and is very good friends with the GM.

It's a shame for the conference, but not unexpected. He appears to have been very up-front about his long-term goals with his AD, and there's even talk that he told a recent potential recruit that he couldn't guarantee being there for the long term.

Let's wait to see who Iowa State hires as Hoiberg's replacement. I doubt there will be much drop off this upcoming season. Almost all the team returns. But the season after is open to question at this point.
