Memphis released its non-conference basketball schedule today showing a game with Southern Miss at FedexForum on either November 13 or 14 (depending on the Grizzlies schedule).

It's been a wild ride these last few years for USM hoops...glad to see some CUSA on the schedule (La Tech and USM)

Schedule USM after they went 9-20. Great timing, Tigers.

Once UAB gets into the Missouri Valley, we'll give you a ring...j/k

But we did schedule La Tech coming off a 27 win season, thinking they would have Mike White coaching there.

No offense to USM - a program beating us black and blue in football - but I prefer playing UAB in basketball due to ties shared through Coach Bartow.

November 13th is Friday and November 14th is Saturday.

Good for USM.

May as well get our stuff handed to us at Memphis as anywhere else by anyone else.

If we're going to lose we might as well get paid for it.

Maybe if we continue to improve a home and home can be worked out. I understand Memphis not wanting to give us a home and home based off of where we were a couple of years ago. It appears most our administration and fans don't want to settle for anything less. I miss the series, so I hope it continues at some point.

Another bad decision by the staff at USM if there is not a return game involved.

I am ok with a home and home. It could be labeled the Bartow Classic" and a $1 surcharge could be added to the ticket price for cancer research. However, few Tiger fans to my knowledge support my idea.

Well, Memphis is coming off a 18-14 season with no postseason invites, and a loss to a local D2 school at FedEx Forum, Christian Bros. Univ. We even lost to Tulane at home, lol. The really good teams we played mostly blew us out.

I suspect we'll be better this year, but maybe not, who knows. But a loss at home to USM would be another nail in Pastner's coffin.

Good get. More of a winnable game than given credit. Pastner's seat has never been hotter. We all need to schedule these caliber games.

Read that it's a one game deal.

With the amount of money Memphis makes off a home basketball game, we'd probably have to take the combined income from our entire home OOC schedule and double it to get Memphis to even think about a road trip, much less one to play a team of our current caliber.

Small time thinking.

You can think as big as you want, but eventually, there's a certain amount of reality that has to be dealt with. Memphis is a premiere national basketball program. They're aren't going to do a home-and-home in hoops with us anymore than Florida is going to sign one in football. That's not by any means to say cutting a deal to get them back in Hattiesburg is impossible--a 2-for-1 or a multi-sport deal could be done--but thinking we can just demand a return game when Memphis has a one-off OOC home opening is silly. We could refuse the game, but then they'd just call the next school on their list, and we end up hosting the College of the Northern Gulf instead.

If we'd signed a 3+ game agreement without one at home, I'd agree with you, but Memphis has zero incentive, finacially or competitively, to reciprocate just one date.

Not so fast. You scheduled La Tech after they lost 3 of the best players in their history not named Paul or Karl. Mike White doesn't suit up.
