OT: NFL to announce Los Angeles plans in August? - goofus - 05-21-2015 04:48 PM

Despite the report, which has a reliable source, the NFL denies it will announce in August that The Rams will be moving back to Los Angeles.

We might be hearing rumors, stories, speculation, and trial balloons about the NFL and LA from now until there is a genuine official announcement.

Looks like this one about the Rams was leaked to counter the cbssports.com columnist who claimed today that a source told him the Chargers/Raiders project is in the lead and the Rams will be hosed. Or, maybe that story was fed to the columnist to counter the Rams-to-LA rumor. Who knows.

The NFL has had close to 30 years now to get back into LA and hasn't done it either via relocation or expansion. I don't get how these California entities got into this facility/bidding war for a NFL team over that time frame with any real direction directly from the league.

You mean 20 years. Anyways, it's well past time.

Kronke bought that land not to build a stadium for someone else to use...the Rams are going back to Los Angeles...the race is between the Raiders and Chargers even if they are so-called partners in their own Stadium in the LA Area...07-coffee3

Perhaps it's just me but August sounds to me like the worst time possible to announce such plans. You cant just move right after the announcement so that pretty much blows up one teams season right at the start. Think about how that season is going to go locally for that team or teams that announce they are leaving their City right before they begin the season of playing in that City.

That would be messed up.

Nothing IMO will be announced until after the Raiders/Chargers/Rams have finished their Home Schedule...remember what happened to Cleveland when they moved from their to Baltimore...the year before they went to the Playoffs and was a Playoff Contender until it was leaked they was leaving Cleveland in 95.

The NFL planned for it when they made the schedule. Rams and Chargers both play their last two games on the road. Rams' last home game is Thursday December 17, Chargers' last home game is Sunday December 20. The Raiders' last home game is Thursday night, December 24, against the Chargers, to start off the second-to-last week of the season. Christmas Eve at the Oakland Coliseum will be nuts if it's already leaked out that the Raiders are leaving.

Let every former LA team come home (including the Chargers via their AFL days).

Unless one of them snags a home playoff game. oh, who am I kidding? If they know they are leaving, they will probably tank the season like Cleveland in 95.

There's no way two teams in the same division should be moved to LA.

It does make sense for 2 teams to share a billion $ stadium instead of having 2 stadiums.

In my opinion, it's just the Rams. You are correct in regard to Kronke already knowing that his team is going. They are doing the same thing with The Chargers and The Raiders that they have done for years. They are using imminent movement back into the LA market in order to get the last of the run down stadiums upgraded.

The Raiders might get moved to LA but I don't see The Chargers happening.

Funny thing though, on the sports radio airwaves this morning I briefly overheard one of the guys talking about a new rumor that The Cardinals may end up with a vastly different schedule in the future. Now, does that mean The Cardinals could end up getting moved to the other Conference?

I don't think so but who knows, there is a lot of garbage getting tossed around right now until this all gets settled.

I guess if both the Raiders and Chargers move into the same stadium in LA, then the Raiders have volunteered to shift to the NFC, which means somebody would have to shift to AFC. The cardinals would be a strange choice for the AFC, I would think either Seatle or St. Louis would be better choices for the AFC.

St. Louis makes the best choice in that scenario because if it is Arizona then you still have a geography problem with the NFC West. If the Raiders join the NFC West and St. Louis leaves then you have the same City line up that people want to see with the Rams in LA instead of St. Louis.

It seems like the Chargers and Raiders are always threatening to move to L.A. every time the Rams get mentioned as a candidate to move to the City. I don't think the Chargers or Raiders are moving to L.A., I just think that they want new stadiums where they are.

RE: OT: NFL to announce Los Angeles plans in August? - THE NC Herd Fan - 05-21-2015 08:59 PM

I don't think the Rams can move if St. Louis comes up with money for a new stadium. I think the Raiders are a lock to move, the Chargers are 50/50 stadium financing is by no means certain in San Diego. The 2nd team could be Jacksonville. There is a longshot possibility that Carolina could end up as a candidate. Richardson has it in his will the team must be sold within two years of his death. New owner will want a new stadium, the fact the current stadium is owned by the Panthers financed in large part with PSLs will make a new stadium nearly impossible in Charlotte.

RE: OT: NFL to announce Los Angeles plans in August? - Wedge - 05-21-2015 09:34 PM

StL and SD are pretty much in the same boat. Both have nice drawings of new stadiums and plans that require the NFL and the team to pay about half the cost. The NFL seems to be signaling that a team doesn't have to take a deal that requires them to pay that much, unless they want to. Maybe one city will revise their plan to make the "public contribution" much more than what the other city is offering.

I think the Raiders are positioning themselves to piggyback on whichever LA stadium plan wins out. The only thing they have to beware of is a deal between Kroenke and Spanos that leaves the Raiders holding the bag.

And I still say, watch out for the possibility that Kroenke buys either the Raiders or Chargers for Inglewood and then sells the Rams.

The Rams can move pretty much anytime after this year...so can the Raiders and Chargers...Jacksonville can't go anywhere for a long time...the Jaguars just dropped $63 Million in Stadium upgrades.

I think the Raiders really don't want to leave Oakland but that city is dropping the ball...the Chargers probably want to stay in San Diego but they are also angling for a nice chunk of any relocation fee if/when a team moves into LA.

From CSN Bay Area Carmen Policy was interviewed in which he says that Goldman Sachs told him that the Carson project is viable even with one team. The interviewer then asked if it also means the Raiders. Carmen said yes.
