For those who don't feel like clicking the link,

Gunner came in @ #10.

Nice to see him get some early press.

They ripped him for not throwing for 250+ yards in the last four games but failed to mention that he was hurt. Helps put things in perspective.

I think Kiel will end up ahead (however you quantify that; wins, production, where he gets drafted) of quite a few of the guys listed ahead of him on this list. And im really trying not to be a homer here when thinking about Kiel, but it just seems he has most of it together. Strong arm, accurate, size (which apparently is going to be the sole reason Hackenburg is the first QB taken next year according to these guys). The one part of his game that I'm hoping (banking on) changes this upcoming season is the mental aspect of the game. Too many times I saw Kiel lock on to that primary receiver and just stare him down for days... If he can start looking those DBs off, I think that'll sway some scouts just a bit and bolster his numbers. Also be a little smarter with the ball, for however many INTs came off staring a guy down, I seem to remember a couple where he trusted his arm a little too much.

Fix the mental side of the game, and this guy might be the best QB in the draft next year.

Kiel should put up massive numbers this season. UC's WR's and offense in general should be far superior to just about every defense they will face. Looking at the schedule next year they should have at least 8 games they should win rather easily and the other 4 or so are all very winnable as well. There shouldn't be a single "definite" loss on the entire schedule.

Kiel reminds me of the former Illinois quarterback Jeff George. He was a top five draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts with all the tools Kiel will go as far as his mental side lets him.

Am I crazy to believe that if Kiel has the year we expect out of him, we will go undefeated?

No its not. Hard to go undefeated, but this team has the schedule and potential to do it. Not likely, but not out of the realm of possibility.

We will need a serious upgrade on defense to go undefeated.

Our defense gave up more than 1000 yards in the spring game and they knew the plays coming at them.

I know we had some players sitting out, but there are huge issues on the defensive side of the ball.

We've got Miami (FL) on what is conceivably a down year, UCF at home, ECU with a new QB, and Houston with a new coach. I honestly think our toughest game this year is between BYU and Memphis, luckily we'll have a bye week before BYU to prepare, but our rush defense may be absolutely abysmal this year, unfortunately we'll only have 4 days to prepare for Memphis at Memphis...hopefully the guys will not want a repeat of last season. It is reasonable to assume we could go anywhere from 13-0 all the way to 9-3 this year in the regular season, I think anything lower would be a significant disappointment for all parties.

RE: Top 15 Quarterbacks for this year - kpzero - 05-20-2015 05:54 PM

If we can shoestring together an average defense, an undefeated season becomes a real possibility.

Looking at the Defensive roster is painful. I feel like I want to make a roadtrip to knoxville for things.

1 SR, 1 JR, 2 SO, and 3 Jucos. That is our experience on the D Line.

Good ole Penny Brain $1M Arm.

After re-reading my post, I want to clarify. I think that he has a million dollar arm like George, but the mental side is inconclusive at this point. Kiel has not proven himself as a head case to the George degree.

With this schedule, even a subpar D should be able to get us more than 9 wins.

That is true, but my worry is the D line will be awful again and cost us some wins, on what could have been a very special season with the offense we have.

Yep. The schedule is weak again. They should get at least to 8 wins by just showing up.

RE: Top 15 Quarterbacks for this year - Dannyboy - 05-21-2015 01:36 PM

You're always going to have games where you can't score in the red zone or you turn it over. The D has to be able to win it of you when that happens, but I'm not optimistic that ours can. No DTs = can't stop the run & can't pressure the QB = LBs move up to help = more pressure on safeties = giving up the deep ball. If you can't control the center of the line, you can't control anything. Teams are going to torch us for big points.

If Kiel stays healthy and dominates I can see 10 wins. If not, we will have several bad losses.

Good ole Penny Brain $1M Arm.

I always thought he was better than what people gave him credit for.

Been to several college and pro games and sat close up, no one threw the ball with as much zip on it then George. Absolute rocket for an arm.
