Big 12 trouble? - Thomas J. Crumpecker - 04-19-2015 12:10 PM

Another source seems to think it. Also Mizzou to BIG with KU and OU? Hmm 18? Who would be #A 18 .....UCONN? Iowa St(due to Iowa politics?

SEC? What's their gameplan for future?

Texas? Can they afford BIG 12 to falter? A league in which they dominate decision making. OU turning the page from the boys from Austin?

Then ND? What happens if the Big 12 crumbles? Do they continue to run around indy or do they seek something they need and someone else needs? Still say they will play in league but dicate a lot of the leagues football thinking?

I personally see a day both the Irish and the Horns need a new way of thinking. Can they both be indy and continue on? Not smoking the Irish here. Good grief I don't want to get sent to the smack board once more. These are all valid points for a very fluid future. IMHO the good soul on NC State board has way more info then some will ever give credit. How it plays out will be interesting.

Just the fact though the BIG 12 may be having issues makes one think. Where they all go? Who needs them as much as they need that person?

FOX--- PAC with dose of ESPN
CBS---SEC with dose of ESPN
ABC---BIG with dose of ESPN
NBC--ACC with dose of ESPN

You can better bet NBC will want more content then just ND/ACC. A either Texas INDY or a TEXAS bring a few with them to form a division in ACC could be some thinking. ND having their own setup division(playing whom they want) could play big. Never say never. The game is changing. When is the question! Packman 81' give all of us the headsup. How it works and when is the interesting point left!.

RE: Big 12 trouble? - Hokie Mark - 04-19-2015 12:28 PM

ACC to expand to 40 teams by acquiring Penn State, Maryland, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, USC, UCLA, and Arizona.

My sources tell me that this will allow the ACC to renegotiate with ESPN to form a 24/7 ACC Cable Network. I'm told some will still lobby for UConn as #41.

RE: Big 12 trouble? - Wolfman - 04-19-2015 12:47 PM

What sources?

I believe it is UO (University of Oklahoma) not OU (Ohio University).

B1G - where did Oklahoma come from? I've heard Missouri and by association Kansas but nothing regarding Oklahoma.

SEC - They want the states of Virginia and NC. They are willing to wait for them.

Texas - yes they can afford the failure of the B12. They would like to wind up where Oklahoma does. If the B12 fails, that may not be an option.

Notre Dame - continues to be Notre Dame. None of this affects their relationship with the ACC.

The mouse is never going to let ESPN be a 2nd tier player in college sports. They have already given ESPN the nod over ABC sports. Why would they back off now?

How/when did NBC get the ACC?

It is all heading to 4 major conferences dude. IMO the Irish will have a choice. Join or watch playoffs. Texas also. See I like Greg Flugaur is calling for the end of the BIG 12. Hate to say it. Hell it has been over since OU quit playing Nebraska annually. See what Texas did. Ran off 4 players. People tire of such arrogance. Now I really dont think ND is arrogant. Just been given a gift for so long. A gift that also others want to see end. I just wonder how the Irish pull this off and save face, Surely they have a plan. Some get their way even if it is just to save their namesake.

Well I almost agree. Still going back 25 years. Looking at it now who would have thought?

Fair enough.

RE: Big 12 trouble? - nole - 04-19-2015 08:42 PM

Both the Big 12 and ACC are unstable.

Biggest difference is the top Big 12 teams have enough power/money to never have issues (Texas could suck for 2 decades and still have the $$$ to buy themselves back into competition) AND the ACC properties in VA and NC are highly sought after by the SEC and B1G.

As growing revenue disparities start to show themselves over the next couple of years....you will see some schools start to second guess the Big 12/ACC.
