Your SBC Teams Best and Worst Games Within Last 5 Seasons - RamblinRedWolf44 - 03-26-2015 06:42 PM

More random, off season discussion-to make the choices somewhat easier, we'll split it up between non conference games and Conference games.

BEST NON Conference: #25 Kent State Golden Flashes
2012 Golden Flashes were no joke-they won ten straight games, jumped as high as 18th in the AP and were a few plays away from taking down NIU and perhaps busting the BCS themselves. The Red Wolves victory over Kent State was not only their bowl victory in the FBS, but their first victory over a ranked opponent since joining FBS. (pretty sure that last one is accurate)

Best Conference: 2012 Middle Tennessee
Once again from the 12 season, the "de-facto" SBC title game and Red Wolves shined on all three phases of the ball. The victory in Lafayette the same year was no doubt a big win and close to tops, but the setting and importance of this game had been one that haunted ASU in past seasons (always losing the big showcase ones).

Worst Non Conference: 2013 Memphis
...UGH.....no doubt in all five seasons the UGLIEST game I've seen this squad unfortunately play.

Worst Conference Lost: 2010 FIU
In 08, Troy thumped us something ridiculous for the SBC title and N.O. Bowl bid. While that did suck to watch in person, Trojans showed up loud and proud and I respected that.

fast forward two years later...in Miami...FIU needing to beat us to clinch the conference title and their was perhaps 1-2,000 (being generous too). It was already bad enough we at that point had dropped three straight, and their victory coming once again courteous of freakin TY Hilton, but to see "dozens of fans" rush the field to celebrate (and setting off the stadiums fire alarms and sprinklers) was an all time low.

Looking forward to the responses

BEST NON Conference: 2013 Florida
Hands down the best way to leave FCS.

Best Conference: 2014 AppSt
Always good to beat them Goathumpers.

Worst Non Conference: None

Worst Conference Lost: Ain't lost one yet.

RE: Your SBC Teams Best and Worst Games Within Last 5 Seasons - Bobcat2013 - 03-26-2015 07:18 PM

Not sure if by best you mean most competitive/entertaining, most dominant, or most important to the program, but in my opinion:

Best non-conference game: @Houston in 2012
First win as an FBS team against a team that was coming off a nearly undefeated(lol) season. It made SC Top 10 and got us votes in the poll. Campus was really energetic that next week but then the worst non-conference game happened......

Best conference game: vs South Alabama in 2013
Was tempted to not put this since we were in control, hell I was feeling comfortable, but then we gave up the lead with less than a minute left or so only to come back. Since we pulled out the win in spectacular fashion it gets the nod.

Worst non-conference game: vs Texas Tech in 2012
First home game in the expanded stadium, coming off of a big win over Houston, and hosting a Big 12 team. So we **** the bed after our first drive.

Worst conference game (tie): vs #18 La Tech in 2012, and @ South Alabama in 2014
I was tempted to put the La Tech game as the best conference game since it was against a ranked team in a cardiac arrest inducing shootout, but we lost like 56-63 or something like similar, highly frustrating.....
South Alabama because it was basically a replay of 2013, except we fail on 4th and goal and they get their revenge.....

Last five seasons...Trojan football hasn't been what we've come to expect, but I'll give it a go...

Best Non-Con: 2012 Troy 41 - Navy 31
Worst Non-Con: 2014 UGA 0-66

Best Conference win: 2013 Troy 34 - usa 33
Worst Conference loss: 2010 Troy 35 - FIU 52

Best Non-Con - Beating a bowl eligible Tulane team in 2013.
Worst Non-Con - losing to Southern Utah to start the 2013 season. Cost us a bowl game.

Best Con - USA thrashing SBC co-champs ULL 30-8 in a game that USA could have won by 60 if they had wanted to. (I know there were injuries, but it was beat down)
Worst Con - Ga Southern. We weren't ever in that game.

RE: Your SBC Teams Best and Worst Games Within Last 5 Seasons - High Country Student - 03-26-2015 08:32 PM

Best conference: ULL 2014. Great to convincingly win on the road against one of the prominent teams from our new conference in year one after nearly blowing a decent lead on the road against an also very good StAte team.

Best nonconference: Montana 2012. After getting whooped in Missoula the year before, was great to come back and beat Montana in a matchup that put two of the best in fcs head-to-head during the regular season.

Worst conference: South Alabama 2014. Terrible game to open up sun belt play. Getting blown out at home by a middle tier south alabama team did nothing to boost fan confidence.

Worst nonconference: NC A&T 2013. When you've just announced a move to FBS and you had previously blown a team out 58-6 two years earlier, it never helps to lose to that same team two years later at home. It makes it even worse when that team is from your state and you lose a sense of pride when you realize that you just lost to the cupcake team on the schedule.

Worst conference loss is ASU from this year and it's not even close. It's not only our worst conference loss of all time, but our worst loss ever period.

The thing about that MT game from 2012 was. The 45-0 score and if I remember correctly 0 penalties or almost zero penalties.

We literally played a perfect game for the first 3 quarters

6 posessions
6 Touchdowns
0 penalties
0 4th downs faced.
We finally faced a 4th and goal 2 minutes into the 4th quarter and kicked a Field goal. Got a false start penalty midway through the quarter, and punted right at the end of the game...that was it.

That was Aplin's last game. We won the coin toss, and he could be heard over the officials mic saying "it's over" Poor Blue Raiders never stood a chance.

I'd put South Alabama as our best conference win honestly.

Even after our close calls at NC State and GT, there was a belief in the conference that we were still just a transitional team that couldn't hang with the more experienced members. Then we ran that game from start to finish.

The App win was great the next week, but the USA game opened some eyes in the conference.

I agree with Klak on this. It was the "we belong" kind of statement.

RE: Your SBC Teams Best and Worst Games Within Last 5 Seasons - TheRevSWT - 03-27-2015 09:00 AM

I'd say our worst conference game was 2013 against the Cajuns. We were riding high after a good start, and feeling like we would make it a decent game. But in truth, that game was over shortly before most folks got in their seats. It was the very definition of domination. Only a couple of returns in garbage time made the score "as close" as it was.

Best conference win was 2014's win over stAte. First time we beat an FBS team with a winning record. They were beat up, but don't care... They had a winning record, and we beat them.

Best non-conference win: 2012 UH. First game as an FBS school against an FBS school, and we won. (The Illinois game should have taken their place last year)

Worst non-Conference loss: 2012 Texas Tech. Brand new stadium, first home game as FBS against FBS opponent, riding high off of a big win against UH... We were feeling the surge that we were UNSTOPPABLE. Then we got handled.

In the past 10 years, our worst losses were our 3 losses to Georgia Southern, our best wins were our 7 wins against Georgia Southern.

Best Conference Win: 2013 win over ULL.
I think this year's win over Texas State is a close second. We managed to win the game after starting with 4 consecutive turnovers (which ended in points) with a walk-on 3rd string QB and a host of other injuries. Plus it was the most important game we have really played.

Worst Conference Loss: 2014 loss to stAte. We were never really in the game. Sure, we had a ton of injuries, but this is a one of those that you can't make an excuse for, we just got bent over.

Best Non-conference Win: 2013 win over Tulane. Just an awesome game.

Worst Non-conference Loss: 2013 loss to Southern Utah. Just a terrible game from start to finish.
The Navy (2014) and Tennessee (2013) games tie for 2nd place, becuase they were heart breakers. We had a chance to win both games, and couldn't pull it off.
