Don't see it happening. It's all hype to make sure UK appreciate$ him - Calipari's been there, done that. He knows that you actually have to be a great game time coach and strategist to win in the NBA, as every team has good talent and the disparity from one team to another is not that great. In college BB, recruiting is the name of the game - stack your team with overwhelming talent and 9 out of 10 times, you will win. Since he and WWW have the best recruiting machine going, this work well to his advantage. Plus, he's a decent coach - not great but decent. He could not reproduce the winning formula he has at UK in the NBA.

Mike & Mike were just discussing this. They seem to think his ego will steer him to Cleveland especially if they go 40-0. There'd be nothing left to prove in college and NBA is the only place he has failed.

...although, the only thing that makes this remotely "S"TR is our undying obsession with hating everything Cal.

As long as the one and done rule is in place, Cal won't leave imo.

I think that rule might be part of the reason he does go back to the NBA.
Lot of work every year with all the turnover, that's why he has been so vocal about making it a two year rule.

I wonder who WWW would use then as the next Cal in the NCAAs ?

RE: Cal to the NBA STR - holyterror - 03-26-2015 08:34 AM

Cal is either working this story for his financial benefit, of for that of his assistant coaches, which is kinda the same thing. He did that when he was Memphis, if mammary serves.

Exactly the same thing that ran through my mind when I heard them discussing this on Mike and Mike this morning.

But, Cleveland?

John Calipari will always be Tiger related.

Joshua Pastner

Source: Cal's agent

Cal will receive raise based on this crap. Bottom line: Cal can't win on level playing field. He needs the edge KY gives him.

Not sure if he's a WWW guy (yet?) but Marshall would seem like the no brainer for them.

Joshua Pastner

He probably would have taken this Kentucky team, kicked off Towns and Lyles, benched the twins in favor of walk-ons, and lost 7 or 8 games.

RE: Cal to the NBA STR - gusrob - 03-26-2015 10:00 AM

I wouldn't lose more than 3 with this talent. And, I'd look like Ron White/Red Aurbach on the bench with Bourbon and a dark cigar.

RE: Cal to the NBA STR - snowtiger - 03-26-2015 10:01 AM

Somebody better bolt down the snowcone machine.

RE: Cal to the NBA STR - RekeHavoc - 03-26-2015 10:05 AM

I just wonder what could have been in they had listened to Cal and drafted Kobe.

Not to mention if he does leave it could start a domino effect in the college coaching ranks.
