Sir Charles - Pavy78 - 03-20-2015 01:45 PM

Any chance we flood Charles Barkley's social media accounts with #FreeUAB related material? I thought it might be worth it since he is on the pre/post and halftime shows for the tournament. It doesn't hurt that he's a Auburn guy too :)

Someone on here may have already thought about it, but thought I throw it out there.

Go Blazers! #FreeUAB

Charles only liked us when we had a black head coach in basketball.

Good grief.

Didn't watch the broadcast yesterday did you?

RE: Sir Charles - the_blazerman - 03-20-2015 02:14 PM

Kenny Smith said in that same broadcast that put us in any other bracket & we would have lost.

RE: Sir Charles - Hambit - 03-20-2015 02:42 PM

Even though we played the second highest ranked 3 seed, who was on an inevitable dark horse run according to more than a few. We busted a ton of Final Fours. Something like 16% I believe.

Hm.

What does that have to do with having a black coach or not. Stop trying to stir things up. Tons of people had Iowa State picked over UAB, and it didn't have anything to do with the color of Jerod Haase's skin.

Charles Barkley isn't going to talk up or down UAB football because he's an Auburn guy in addition to the fact that CBS has probably told everyone to leave it alone on air, not because they fired Mike Davis.

RE: Sir Charles - Hopeful - 03-20-2015 03:17 PM

I don't think spamming him would be effective. Honestly, I think it'd be counterproductive. More than that, I don't think there's no disrespect in them being dismissive. What they're saying is pretty much reflective of informed opinions. They're just being real. You have some monsters, some real threats, and then there are some bumps in the road. Teams like Kentucky and Wisconsin are monsters, teams like Duke and Kansas are lurking around a tier below them, and everyone else is just in the mix. We're UAB fans so, naturally, we perceive our guys to at least be a threat whereas they're not even on the radar of most folks.

I think they'll all collectively be thrilled if UAB kept beating expectations and ruining brackets.

Almost every time UAB is mentioned the football situation is mentioned. Sometimes just in passing and not delving deep into the situation. But it's getting back into the national spotlight.

I think I remember hearing one of the recaps going: UAB went into this game as 2 touchdown underdogs. Then ISU's final 3 point field goal attempt gets a tap in for two

Almost every single sports center top ten play we've had this season included some mention of football.

RE: Sir Charles - UABslant - 03-20-2015 03:24 PM

Barkley doesn't have any problem with UAB and I know for a fact he knows more about our history than the rest of the guys on the set with him combined. I don't think he liked the fact we fired Davis so soon, but he's also a smart enough guy to understand why we did it.

Where did I mention Iowa State & where did I mention UAB Football?

Barkley didn't give the impression that he cared one way or the other about UAB yesterday in his commentary & that has changed since when Davis was coach.

You could say the same thing about a lot of UAB fans on this message board, so I don't know why you would expect a former Auburn player to be fawning over UAB and expecting them to beat a 3 seed.

UAB has to earn people's respect, don't expect it to be given.
