My take...

Up-to-standard:
-Coach/program with a recent history of sending kids to the NHL level.
-Amazing locker rooms (although no one compares to NoDak)
-Fans, especially student section.

Needs Improvement:
-Overall facilities are out-dated.
-Lackluster offensive output last couple years.
-Lack of team discipline.
I won't speculate about much else than to say I do believe WMU needs to generate a consistent offence five on five and on the power play . Maybe recruiting needs to address that hole. We seem to have the defense and the grittiness just need some finess players.

Is the goal to send kids to the NHL or win games in the NCHC? This coach seems to like the former over the later, but the people on this board want to see a winner!

Agree with the locker rooms. Not the best around, but certainly not the worst.

Discipline is certainly an issue, from the top down as I mentioned before.

Need the Big-O badly. We lost a lot of our goal scoring this year to graduation and guys moving on. We cannot hang our hat on Tiffels every game.

They can go hand-in-hand. The ability to feed kids to the NHL (and other pro levels) attracts quality recruits. I know we've got a ways to go, but we've also made a lot of progress.

I would not give coaching an A, between all the off ice issues and leading the country in penalty minutes. That starts at the top.

Trust me when I say off ice issues are everywhere. I'm certainly not saying it's ok, but it kind comes with the territory. If it were juniors, a coach can trade/cut a guy and just replace them with a new player during the season. But college coaches don't have this latitude.

As for the penalty minutes, I don't buy it. There are several Broncos who are playing Murray's fast, tough to play against style of hockey, yet they find a way of staying out of the box.

But there was little repercussions to many of the off ice issues, some guys got away with murder all the way up to the last week of hockey, when you let certain guys break the rules and the whole team sees it you will lose the team.

Not true. The coach can cut and release kids after every season. Scholarships are year to year. Coaches at other schools release kids all the time for rules violations. Suspensions at the least.

With everything involved with this team,I would give coaching a C.

UNO has a "perfect storm" lining up for them. Excellent 2014/15 incoming recruiting class and now a final four. And for the 2015/16 season a new rink:

Lawson is getting real long in the tooth. We definitely need a new ice arena or a ground-up renovation of Lawson.

Thanks for that link, Fever - looks like it's going to be a fantastic new barn for UNO.

I'm not saying that it should or it shouldn't, but if a new downtown Kzoo arena ever became a reality, I could see this facility being an example of what it might look like.

A new rink is a pipe dream. The program is struggling to get the remaining dollars needed to renovate the locker room.

UNO sold out all 7,000 season tickets for their new rink in just 32 days, only 450 remain....

I'll have to get a Mav home game on my schedule to check out this new rink
