please tell me why ISIL, ISIS, IS meaningful in scope....other than the fear - stinkfist - 03-02-2015 12:41 PM

tell me how they are a threat to our nat'l security.....or better yet, tell me why we aren't worried about border security, infrastructure rehab relative to our current tax structure....

does anyone really care about a handful of beheadings other than the fear mongering?

does anyone really care about how it's presented by the media?

apparently the populous does.....it sickens me....

the 'civilized' world has an unrealistic expectation that I am unwilling to absorb......

twitter boy just got threatened today.....oh shite, go figure that out....those dipshites no longer have a forum.....

They are 1,000 x more organized than al Qaeda, and al Qaeda hurt us on 9/11.

From a nat'l security perspective, you are correct. ISIS lacks the power projection capabilities to truly be a credible threat. Despite the horror of 9/11, that event represented the absolute best case scenario for any terrorist organization. It will be extremely difficult to pull off again. The question about ISIS is really about whether instability in the Middle East in America's best interest, specifically with regard to the global economy. As such, it indirectly matters that the world maintains steady access to oil. Otherwise we'd treat the Middle East like the Central African Republic.

I always said from day 1, I am much more worried about copy cats/losers who have nothing else in their life, and just want to feel like they are a part of something, than an actual, organized ISIS attack. I'm of the opinion that they have their hands rather full with Syria/Iraq right now.

With that said, ISIS seems pretty motivated (at least, their propaganda dictates such) to recruit, self-radicalize and/or radicalize in Syria/Iraq and send back to America these types (those who are dumb/easy enough to brainwash), and given political correctness, I don't believe there is anything we can do in preventing them from being allowed back into the country.

Another threat is sleeper cells. We know the southern border is wide open, and we know illegals with ISIS/al Qaeda connections are crossing into the country. I fear the day they give the go ahead to 100's (if not 1000's, who knows) of those already in the USA to conduct individual attacks. If just 100 or so of them were given the order to go shoot up 100 different malls, schools, stadiums, etc. at the same time, all across the country, it would cause a bigger stir than 9/11, IMO. You would have no guarantees that your mall, school, stadium, etc. wouldn't be next. It would be chaos.

Am I crippling in fear? No, I'm not a p*ssy, but you asked how they were meaningful in scope. That's how.

+1

Even Reagan got the hell out of Lebanon. We have unrealistic expectations for what we're going to accomplish over there.

Don't worry Mach already said last week that they were defeated.

We have more to worry about from crazy people with guns, and we apparently have plenty of those in this country already.

ISIS could easily be here in waiting. I don't fear ISIS, for I will not hesitate to fire my weapon if threatened, but it's not a bad idea to be ready just in case.

It's possible. Though it sounded like ISIS already sent out a call for "lone wolf" type attacks but so far so good, in this country at least.

Yeah, in my mind, don't hide in a shelter and live in fear but don't let your guard down.

Its a snowball effect.

Right now, in the scheme of things, the caliphate is seen as a minor inconvenience, yet they've managed to recruit thousands of people from around the world. However, if left unchecked and allowed to expand, it has the potential of being recognized as a true caliphate not just by the hard core nut cases, but also by devout Muslims. If that happens then we will have tens of millions answering the call of isis.
If that happens, then closest thing I can equate it to is the pope telling all good catholics to kill all the protestands, pagans and atheists, and that they won't go to heaven if they don't do this. Would catholics do this? a lot of them wouldn't, but enough of them would to make life a living hell for everybody. BTW I'm catholic myself and I'm just using this as an example.
However that is exactly what the caliph is telling all practicing muslims.
