Navysports on the American Athletic Conference - Kruciff - 02-17-2015 12:55 AM

Quote:Link

Not entirely unlike the nation that provides its namesake, the American Athletic Conference was born from an ideal in which members with ambitious goals are provided with the means to succeed in their quests for excellence....

... Under the leadership of commissioner Mike Aresco, The American, which operated as the Big East Conference from 1979 to 2013, has immediately taken a place at the forefront of Division I athletics, with schools that have played in four Bowl Championship Series games, won four NCAA men's basketball titles since 1999, and won nine NCAA women's basketball championships since 1995.

Two American Athletic Conference football teams were ranked in the top 15 of the final 2013 Associated Press poll. Five were selected for bowl games, including UCF, which won the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and finished the season ranked No. 10 nationally. The conference produced 14 players who received All-America recognition by a major outlet.

The American had four players chosen in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, trailing only the SEC and the ACC among FBS conferences. UCF quarterback Blake Bortles highlighted a group of 12 American Athletic Conference players chosen when he was taken No. 3 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The success of The American in Year 1 was not limited to the gridiron. UConn won NCAA titles in both men's and women's basketball. The conference had the best postseason winning percentage of any league in men's basketball, while The American produced top-10 teams in baseball, men's soccer and men's golf and sent half of its participating teams to the NCAA Softball Championship.

Welcome Aboard Navy!

Navy is a class act. I'd take them over most of the programs in the other conferences.

Awesome

Glad to see Navy in a conference. I really enjoyed attending the game at the Navel Academy. It was a really cool experience and encourage you all to attend a game whenever you get a chance. I really would love to see NCSU get Navy again on the schedule.

Welcome Navy!

Glad to have the Middies with us!

Not many Navy guys around these boards. Maybe they don't feel part of this conference yet.

They should. Even Army fans use the AAC board.
The problem I see is that a majority part of users has Navy as a 2th team. I just remember of old salt posting around here as a 100% Navy fan, and this has a year more or less.

Awesome. Navy has it all, service, history, great athletic program... and what impresses me most is that they have NEVER wavered from their decision to join the conference... AND have been vocal in their support. Especially after the Boise debacle.

I wish we had three more Navys!

Sounds like Navy is bullish on the American right on their main page... big American logo on the right hand side... kudos Navy!

Navy has some top level uniforms.

Does anyone know their main forum? It'd be nice to get more of a presence on this board from them.

Nice post on the Navy webpage. I was surprised to see so much content about non-football AAC sports, considering Navy is only coming aboard for football.

Yup, I made a post. Now it's up to them if they want to join up.

I think Navy brings a lot to our league I'd like to see them schedule some out of conference basketball games against us. If their competitive than they should be added for all sports remember Navy
has a very tough college curriculum engineering is not easy, I studied engineering technology at Central Connecticut and it wasn't easy applied engineering. Straight Engineering is even harder than engineering technology so they don't have a lot of time on their hands. If they have success in football which I think they will they should try competing with us and basketball, schedule out of conference.
Can't wait to see Navy come to Hartford I might even go with my bad back and all. I saw Boston College play UConn those were some really intense games, I was at all the games in boston and Hartford they were really good except for the first time they played in Boston, Bc Spanked them. Bc was in the Big East and UConn was independent that year.

The AFA now competes in the MW in all sports. Perhaps Navy could do the same in the American?

Not likely. Our Olympic sports are quite competitive in the Patriot League and from what I hear we're pretty happy there.

If you look at AFA's record in the MWC, outside of football and men's basketball they're not successful at all. We'd probably be in a similar boat in the American (pun not intended).
