The good news home game which I hope to attend-may be the last one of the year.
Bad news, Akron looks pretty tough.

Murphy has never beat Akron. The only MAC team he's yet to defeat. So...that would be a nice elephant to get out of the room.

what's up with them this year? i know they have a good record. they have a good coach. they're prone to losing to bad teams on the road (NIU & Ohio). people seem excited about freshman guard Robotham. other than that, i've got nothing. i'll be there, but will probably miss the first 10 minutes of the game.

Haven't seen them play yet this year, but I've heard the same about Robotham. Gonna be a thorn in the side of the rest of the MAC for the next 3 years. Ugh.
On paper, what stands out most is their size. Forsythe, Johnson, and Cheatham are some big boys. I'm hoping Akron didn't watch any tape of the Toledo game, where Nathan Boothe destroyed our big men, because Forsythe is capable of doing the same thing. They also play 11 guys, which is almost unheard of these days.
I thought losing Treadwell would kill Akron, when it seems they are playing even better without him. Bill Simmons and his "Ewing Theory" hard at work. This will be a very, very tough game for us. Akron has 7 guys that can hurt us from deep, and size to rebound those misses. Plus their scoring comes from all over the place, as only one guy averages double figures.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think Murph's Akron losing streak continues.

Couple of ideas:
Tree Treadwell was a gifted player but might have been a negative for the team. Think if he averaged 5 PPG he would have been long gone long time ago.
Mike Edwards might be a clone of Forsythe. Forsythe is a nice player to have doing the work inside (not something the MAC has too much of).

Maybe a harbinger of things to come, but UDM (4-7 Horizon) at home beat CLE State (9-2) last night.
And talk about 'harbingers', anyone see UofM vs. Illinois (Thursday)? Illinois went on a 21 - 0 run end of regulation/OT to beat badly... Folks that was a big time melt down. UofM completely blew the end of regulation time...
Our problems late in the game (Wednesday) wasn't fun to watch but wasn't catastrophic either...

BTW, good thing the game is an afternoon game. Wind chills throughout the Midwest/Northeast/Mid-Atlantic will be well below zero tonight.
Even at Okoloji's old school, George Mason, wind chills tonight: -24. That has got to be a near record for the D.C. area.
Tonight's a good night to get some of Super's favorite drink(s) and bundle up...

Interesting thing about hoops are matchups.
Against Miami we went small with Ward at PF and Nazione at C.
Probably today, I'd guess Nazione, Samuels, Ward, Lee and Talley. The front court matches up size wise vs. Akron.
I wonder if Hunter can handle the much taller Forsythe???

Kent St beat Toledo on the road yesterday. That shakes my home confidence a little bit. Anyway, that leaves 2 three loss teams left, let's see if EMU can knock another down to 4 (Akron).
