It be best to haveChampionship Football Game in a neutral Spot - 10miners - 02-04-2015 11:18 PM

IF C-usa wants to make itself more attractive I think it needs to have its championship in a neutral spot. Not neutral but somewhere cool. San ANtonio in Alamo Dome would be a good place to start . They could switch it up a couple times. One time in SAn Antonio and next time somewhere in Florida.

or maybe somewhere centrally located (sigh)

I'm pretty cool with the current make-up...

I would travel to who-stunned? again.....

I think it would help with recruiting if C-USA had its championship game in a cool location.

I'm curious regarding the 'how'....

I really don't have an opinion in macro....

understanding others' perspective can yield value.....

so, let's hear it.....

(already digs the tejas 'micro' portion of the equation)

Current setup is best for attendance.

No school in CUSA has a national following, so the highest ranked school is the best way to go. Neutral location in the MAC works because its in Detroit and 9 of the schools are 4 hours or less away. Having a championship game in a neutral location, lets say in B'Ham even and Marshall and UTEP make the title game. Legion Field would most likely look like a ghost town.

all are valid points....

I'm still waiting for new orleans to pop up as a site of importance....

in addition, football is a different animal relative to the hoops/baseball playoff scenario.....a week of play is entirely different than planning for a 'single event'

Huntington is a cool location. Let's have it there for the next several years. 02-13-banana

No. Not unless the cusa title game having 1000 fans in attendance is "cool" by your definition.

Look at the attendance of neutral site championship games in the Pac12, Mac, etc.. Only SEC sold out neutral site championship game. And unless you think playing in a large empty stadium is "attractive" then this isn't the best of ideas.

The MAC only had 15k in the 65k capacity stadium this past season and that was with NIU and the buzz around them. If they can't get a better crowd than that at a centrally located, and close by location, C-USA has no chance with its current far flung situation.

Not going to happen any time soon. Attendance would be bad.

RE: It be best to haveChampionship Football Game in a neutral Spot - freshtop - 02-05-2015 08:53 AM

In addition to poor attendance at a neutral site, I also am in favor of "protecting" our best team as much as possible to increase their chances at the access bowl bid.

RE: It be best to haveChampionship Football Game in a neutral Spot - usm99 - 02-05-2015 10:10 AM

I agree with the majority in that a neutral site will never happen. The way it is for regular season games now, "most" visiting teams travel less than 200 unless it's a rivalry game in which BOTH teams are either east or west teams. For the championship game it can't be 2 teams that are relatively close to each other so as others have said, a neutral site game would "most likely" draw less than a 5000 fans which means it would cost more to put on the game and pay expenses than the game would produce. I also like the fact of rewarding the highest ranked team to hopefully put or keep them in the Access bowl spot.

I wanna tear the goal post down every year. Let's just keep it how it is.

NO... you need football fans to definitely be there.

You're going to get fans when it's a home game for someone. YOu're not necessarily going to get fans on a neutral site with only a week's worth of warning.

RE: It be best to haveChampionship Football Game in a neutral Spot - MTowho - 02-05-2015 05:33 PM

Play home and away with away TDs as the tiebrea.....wait nevermind.

Seriously though - this is simple. You keep it at the site of our best team, because the best team has the best shot at getting into a New Year's Six bowl.

RE: It be best to haveChampionship Football Game in a neutral Spot - Herd_fever - 02-05-2015 07:13 PM

Too be honest and I know some of my fellow Marshall fans wouldn't agree but San Antonio is the best bet for a neutral site Championship game.

The city supports UTSA and CUSA and its Texas and any form of Championship football will be supported by the locals

I think if we gave San Antonio a years notice that CUSA is bringing their conference championship to town, it will be well Marketed and supported by the locals
