The saga continues, and we have no potential home until this gets resolved.

Let's think about this for a minute. If UAB doesn't play FB for even one season, they will have to start over as an FCS team for at least two seasons. Basically, they'd have to do what Charlotte has done. Though, if you read the rules, they could possibly be the whipping boy for a few season's and be all of CUSA's one FCS game and fill their schedule. FCS teams can play as many FBS games as they want, its FBS teams cannot have but one FCS game count towards being Bowl eligible.

I particularly found this statement interesting regarding the gospel of a Carr Report:
" A new outside consultant is going to be hired to review financial numbers and assumptions from a previous consultant’s report."
...Garbage in, garbage out.

Uab as a bb only doesn't preclude cusa from adding an all sports school. Heck it will take 2 years for us to get in anyway

"...We're going to stay in communication and monitor the situation as UAB tries to understand what it's going to do.”

AHA

No idea why CUSA would want UAB at this point. They've totally torn down their program and won't be competitive any time soon even if they bring it back. IMO JMU is actually a lot more attractive than UAB at this point, not that it really matters. Doesn't matter what I think but rather what CUSA leadership thinks. I think CUSA also has to count on some attrition too. They shouldn't sit around and wait on UAB. They're not moving the needle in any case.

RE: CUSA will be patient with UAB - POTUS#4 - 01-29-2015 08:50 PM

"We will be patient" = "We have no consensus on where we go from here anyway"

They will be patient right up until the point when they agree on a better idea - then they'll be impatient.

Any new consultant will almost certainly find fault with the Carr numbers. It will be fascinating to see how Carr defends itself or if they'll just take one for the team, so to speak.

Carr helped get Withers so I will give him some points for that....outside of that I think his "study" business has been exposed

Even though this isn't good for us I actually applaud the CUSA for this move. A conference looking out for the best interests of one of its members. Imagine that!

As always, the comment section is good for a laugh.

Pssh, best comment I've ever seen. You should read the DNR comments on JMU sports articles. Nothing but haters.

I don't see how UAB could add football back at this point. By doing so the admin is pretty much admitting they put very little thought into what could end up costing the university millions of dollars (if they add football back).

RE: CUSA will be patient with UAB - NJDuke97 - 01-30-2015 07:35 PM

"We decided as a conference a long time ago to become an all sports conference" "We had teams like Saint Louis, Charlotte, Marquette and DePaul that didn't have footbal and we just decided back then that we preferred an all-sports model" Isn't this revisionist history by the CUSA commissioner? I could be wrong but didn't those schools decide to leave CUSA for better basketball conferences (Big East and A-10) rather than being shown the door because they didn't sponsor football?

From what I've heard, Charlotte maintains that it got kicked out. That's why them getting football and rejoining was a thing. I can't speak for any of the other schools.

Don't get me wrong I'd be happy about CUSA all sports for JMU but nice try CUSA commissioner with that spin. I guess since it's 10 years ago he thought he could slip that one by as if they were still the CUSA of Cincy, Louisville, Memphis, etc. and had some "hand" in the college sports landscape . Even back then they were below the Big East in the pecking order as the Big East was part of the pre BCS auto bid for the big bowl games in football and superior in basketball. It's a nice story to back into after the fact but I'm not buying it. CUSA is still trying to sell a brand and living under a TV contract from when they were a league with top 25 programs. If JMU moves and the financial feasibility of the move is based on this expiring CUSA TV contract revenues I hope they account for the reduced revenue when the contract is re-negotiated. Fans may buy what the CUSA commissioner is selling but TV executives are smart enough to know how different the product is from a decade or even 5 years ago.

Yeah, he's full of **** with that comment. I mean, I guess that's part of his job is to talk up his conference so I don't really blame him too much but that's kind of laughable.
