Allegations against former USF Basketball Coach - knightastic - 12-30-2014 02:35 PM

One of several schools
Quote:Among the dozens of colleges where he worked to place players was the University of South Florida, where he tried to send four students (three got in).

The father of one South Florida recruit, who spoke on the condition that his name not be used, told The Chronicle that the Bulls’ coaches had instructed his son to take two online courses during his senior year of high school.

Mr. White says the university’s coaches referred the player to him through the player's AAU coach, and he helped enroll the student in BYU’s independent-study classes. Mr. White’s records include a current email address for the player’s mother, log-ins and passwords for the BYU site, and the player’s Social Security number.

Mr. White says he did all of the work for the courses, including coordinating with a proctor to complete the player’s tests. According to information that BYU provided to Mr. White, the player received an A-minus and a B-plus.

The player’s father denied that his son had cheated. When The Chronicle shared details of the records that Mr. White had kept, the father said he had no comment.

Doug Woolard, who served as athletic director at South Florida from 2004 until his departure, in January 2014, did not return several messages left on his cellphone. Stan Heath, the university’s head basketball coach at the time, did not return messages left for his agent or through ESPN, where he works as a color analyst. In a statement, the athletic department said that the university takes its commitment to academic integrity and NCAA compliance “very seriously” and that any allegation of misconduct in these areas is promptly investigated.

If you cheat, at least do not suck.

The NCAA already came to campus and investigated, so I doubt anything serious comes from this. There are some major schools involved too, so that's always a good thing, since the NCAA won't want to punish so many schools at once.

USF might get the short straw then lol

Well, UCF has no room to talk about basketball violations but funny since some USF people tried to look down on UCF for breaking the rules. Guilty or not it sounds sketchy

I don't think the title of this thread actually matches what the article states. But not surprised.

As has been stated and is mentioned in the article, the NCAA had already looked at USF regarding this and moved on.

Notice they mention quite a few other schools and also mentions that many coaches contacted this guy.

I definitely hammer UCF for cheating and if USF did, then I hope we pay for it but like many have said, the NCAA has already looked at this and moved on, which more then likely means that their is nothing to it and that we didnt in fact cheat.

RE: Allegations against former USF Basketball Coach - Ramen_Tiger - 12-30-2014 04:56 PM

Didn't UCF get hammered by Louisville?

RE: Allegations against former USF Basketball Coach - Juan Tibonya - 12-30-2014 04:58 PM

Well it is not like their AD was promising a job to a prospect's mother, and paying the tuition for the friend of a prospect. Maybe if the Head basketball coach was setting up conference calls with a runner and prospects, then they might have something. I mean if your going cheat, you may as well make it a big deal

Don't get defensive man. Just let it play out and see what happens.

So in fact these are allegations against numerous NCAA Institutions. Yet, the OP has singled out South Florida. Go figure. 07-coffee3

It's called plausible deniability. The recruits father said Coach Heath instructed him to take the online courses. Anyone that doesn't think the coach was aware what this shady AAU coach was doing has their head in the sand. You have to find hard evidence to get hammered and Heath/Woulard were probably smarter about it.

Former UCF AD Tribble was a complete dumba$$ that actually used his official UCF email address for his shady dealings

If you truly think that this and more doesn't go on in college athletics then you are fooling yourself. Did you read the article about the list of coaches the guy had and that many were even bigger players than any that USF got.

AAU basketball makes football recruiting seem like the cleanest thing around.

As I said I have no problem with anything said in that article. I just found it funny that there is a short part mentioning USF and that's your title thread.

But whatever this is old news.

When I look at the list of AAC members, pointing out potential issues with leaning on NCAA rules isn't really a very smart thing for many of us to do.

Yes, pitino didn't like ucf was after the same players. We picked on the wrong guy to piss off with his access to Pat Forde and Pete Thamel.
