WHAT TO LOOK FOR: The Bearcats will forge onward without head coach Mick Cronin, as he'll miss another outing for medical reasons. Associate head coach Larry Davis will lead the team. UC is aiming to string together two wins for the first time since November but will have no easy task against a Wolfpack team that's 10-1 at PNC Arena. Atlantic Coast Conference scoring leader Trevor Lacey (18 ppg) and BeeJay Anya (44 blocks) lead a group that's particularly efficient on the defensive glass. A major subplot will be between UC's stingy defense (allows 54.5 ppg) and NC State's high-octane offense (74.2 ppg).

QUOTE OF NOTE: Question to Larry Davis: Is being the head coach like riding a bike? Answer: "Well, you know, yeah. When you get back on that bike the first time, it may be a little awkward at first and then as you do it more and more, it gets a little smoother. Certainly there was a couple days of transition for me. Again, I go back to the VCU game. It was a little like being in a fog. You just couldn't believe everything was happening. And to be able to turn that focus to going back to remembering now you're not suggesting, you're making the decision. You've got to make decisions and you have to make them quickly."

The University of Cincinnati announced Sunday that men's basketball coach Mick Cronin will not coach Tuesday's game at North Carolina State, for medical reasons.

Assistant coach Larry Davis will continue to lead the team in Cronin's absence, UC said.

This is the third game Cronin will miss, with UC announcing Dec. 20 that Cronin had a brain aneurysm. Cronin has been under physician's orders to refrain from coaching while being treated.

Cronin had an angiogram last Monday. Cronin is not expected to require surgery but there still is no timetable for his return, The Enquirer reported last week.

Nice to see the Enquirer using quotes from one of my questions at a media session they didn't bother to attend...

I'm guessing a loss tonight and it could get ugly.

Hope UC proves me wrong....

Now that Koch is gone, are they not gonna have a beat writer follow UC basketball?

I'm always under the impression that the Enquirer's interpretation of "follow" is loose, at best. I like TG, but still, as Chad and Tim A. always point out, a huge majority of media outlets aren't exactly 100% when it comes to attending practices, etc.

BCJ, gobearcats.com, and maybe Vogel seem to be it.

Of course, Lance (Don't F--- with Clearchannel) McAlister is always there when UC players get arrested.

Groeschen is taking over the basketball beat, but he hasn't started yet...

Tonight is the type of game that could maybe begin to turn some heads for Larry if he is ever interested in getting another head coaching job at a school with a higher profile than where he came from. In a weird way it reminds me a little of the Cal game in 2005...except this one is televised.

With a young inexperienced team and the head coach on leave indefinitely, a good showing might start to get him on the radar a bit.

Gary goes home. All of Clayton high will be there. That could be a good thing, or a really bad thing. Time will tell.

Also Formerly recruited Abdul-Malik Abu is a freshmen for NC state. Lets see how he and Clark compare. Should see them guarding eachother a bit

That game was for ESPN's tip off marathon where they run 24+ hours of consecutive games.

Different circumstances, but you're right. The game will be on the watchespn app if anyone has that though.

They certainly exceeded mine today. That was nice.

Brain cramp...it was the LSU game in early 05-06 season I was referring to. Cal was years earlier.

I went to that game. Big Baby and especially Tyrus Thomas were both beasts on the inside. Perhaps the best win of that season.
