SOT: Bowlsby on Orlando sports talk show (link) - SublimeKnight - 12-19-2014 09:23 AM

He was on with Mike Bianchi

Bottom lines:
No expansion
No candidates
Expected to distribute $40m a year per team in coming years
Will probably get CCG with 10 teams thanks to autonomy
Suck it G5s

What do you expect him to say? No way do they get that waiver.

RE: SOT: Bowlsby on Orlando sports talk show (link) - TIGERCITY - 12-19-2014 09:33 AM

Bowlsby shows a brave face with brave predictions - as he should. Sounds a lot like Aresco pre-reality. IMO think the Big 12 is in danger of change for the worse. Isn't the TV contract the Big 12 is under currently still paying the same amounts to the conference it did before they were reduced to 10 teams? If so those 10 are receiving money designed for 12. Plus I suspect that after the current TV deal ends other conferences will come with offers to teams like Texas and Oklahoma. IMO it's still wait and see for the Big 12 ---

I thought that too, but its not a waiver just for them. Its legislation to deregulate championship games among the P5. The ACC wants it so that they can eliminate divisions and pit the top 2 teams.

He also mentioned the possibility of a major restructuring to 4 super conferences. Perhaps there is some truth that the P5s will join forces, liquidate their conferences and realign geographically. Can't see it happening, but the fact that the words "super conferences" came out of his mouth...

RE: SOT: Bowlsby on Orlando sports talk show (link) - SublimeKnight - 12-19-2014 09:42 AM

Something else he said, which is said a lot, but still rubs me wrong everytime I hear it: "We knew someone would be left standing, with 4 slots and 5 <pause as he reevaluates saying conferences> high visibility conferences"

When are we going to just make the new division official?

Well they signed a new deal once they dropped to 10 with the additions of TCU and WVU. I don't know about the championship game for them. I don't know why other conferences would care since they were fine giving them an equal share of all the CFP money even though they only have 10 teams and everyone else has 12-14 teams. So they are splitting that 100 million over less mouths. Not to mention their TV deal doesn't include tier 3 rights which most are making a kings ransom from today. And lets be honest a conference with Texas and Oklahoma, two very storied programs, is never not going to be considered a Power. I will say this they seem to get burned left and right with this conference championship game. When they had one the lower seeded team kept winning and now they don't have one so two fairly equal teams on paper can't pad their resume. Watch they will get it and the next time the 1-2 will be an undefeated team versus a two loss team and the two loss team is going to win knocking them out of the playoff again. It is like they are cursed.

i disagree. i think the waiver passes. the B12, ACC, and SEC want it. the G5's will vote for it also- #1 because it might stop a trickle down effect of realignment if the B12 makes additions to host a championship game #2 maybe the g5 conferences want the same interconference scheduling freedom that the SEC and ACC do. plus it could help the Sun Belt get a championship game without adding schools.

RE: SOT: Bowlsby on Orlando sports talk show (link) - Bearcats#1 - 12-19-2014 10:00 AM

Bowlsby says what he has to say and what he's "supposed to say"

How many of you who lost a coach to a bigger program watched your coach say publicly that he love <insert school>, loves <insert town>, and he's not going anywhere only to see him bolt the next week?

Bowlsby is doing that game right now...

RE: SOT: Bowlsby on Orlando sports talk show (link) - No Bull - 12-19-2014 10:23 AM

really. who cares? if they expand they expand...we won't know about it in advance

Can we stop talking about the B12 now? At least until some decision on a conference championship is reached?

I'm over it. If we still had the label and better bowl ties I wouldn't want to leave the AAC.

I have yet to see or hear anyone say that this has a shot at passing. The other conferences won't go for it.

Yeah, but all the other conferences have more teams.

IMO, the super conference will eventually happen. It could be good for AAC teams because it seems they will add teams.

I wonder how he thinks a P4 would look. It would probably mean the end of either the Big 12 or the ACC --- but I'm sure Bowlsby has a different storyline in mind.

Why do you say that? The SEC would love to deregulate CCGs. What happens if Missouri beats 'Bama in the CCG? The SEC gets shut out of the playoffs. Same with the ACC and B1G this year. Only the PAC was in the fortunate position where their CCG decided which of their teams would make it.

If I had to guess, he sees 4 of the 5 commissioners running new geographic conferences with the 5th overseeing the whole deal. I'm sure he doesn't care about any other details than that.

As of right now, all the other P5 have at least 12 teams and Championship Game. That extra game is the kicker.

IF the right team wins. If GT upset FSU and Wisconsin beat OSU, the B12 would have 2 teams in the playoffs and the conversation would be different, but CCG deregulation would still be pushed, but by different people.
