Bo Pelini to Youngstown St - NoDak - 12-09-2014 10:44 PM

Bo Pelini returns home to Ohio. He'll still collect a guaranteed $3 mil a year from Nebraska. Wonder if YSU Pres Jim Tressel is trying to go FBS and get in the Sun Belt?

WOW. That's a great get by Youngstown.

Thanks Jim Tressel

I am surprised Pellini did not hold out for a P5 job like Kansas or kansas state. If mike Leach and Rich Rod can get rehired at P5 schools, I am sure some P5 school would have hired him.

Unless Bo is looking for less stress in his life. He is getting paid either way.

RE: Bo Pelini to Youngstown St - NoDak - 12-09-2014 11:40 PM

Youngstown St is denying they have hired Pelini based on twitter.

Talked to good source at YSU and they were caught off-guard by this. Source said job has not been officially offered or accepted.

That's not to say it won't happen, just that YSU is a little miffed that Football Scoop apparently heard from Pelini source before they did.

Pelini's personality and rant about the fans/boosters last year has made him damaged goods. I doubt he would have gotten a P5 head coaching position anywhere. He probably could have gotten a job somewhere as a DC but I guess he wants to be a head coach.

As far as YSU goes, they have always wanted to join the MAC but I doubt that they get into the FBS. Ohio is already oversaturated with 8 FBS teams.

Wow. Was hoping a MAC team would snag him. Perfect transition from Solich.

Bo can't get in much trouble there.

Plus, Youngstown is known for being one of the few remaining cities where the mob still has significant power.

I had a co-worker who worked as an inspector in Youngstown maybe 10 years ago. He was told me he was inspecting a new subdivision and when he lifted up the sewer lids, there was nothing but bare earth. They flat out didn't install the sewer system. The developer told him that he still had to approve it, "or else." He approved it but quickly started searching for a new job elsewhere.

Yep. I cannot believe they kept him arond for another season after that rant. People in Nebraska are too nice.

Maybe Pelini can hang out with his brother, party, and collect unemployment checks.

I think Pitt should go after Bo Pelini . Close to home, P5 and right in B1G Country for recruiting.

This actually makes sense.

Does make sense, but it's a rare thing for a fired coach to come back and do well (at DIA level). Bruce and Solich are the only ones to pull it off so far, and the list of failures is surprisingly long.

I do think Pelini is poised to join the short list, but I'm not sure Pitt is the right place.

RE: Bo Pelini to Youngstown St - Hokie Mark - 12-12-2014 02:08 PM

Pelini can live in Ohio and commute to Pitt.

Just goes to show that Bo wasn't well respected.

Potential downside of coaching at a national brand ... crank out 9 win seasons and its all, "dude, get off your ass and start contending for a national championship". A cranky personality only makes it worse.

That or it allows him to collect a paycheck as a head coach to rebuild his image and doesn't relieve Nebraska of the requirement to pay him $150k a month for 51 months like taking a comparable FBS job would.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2014/11/30/nebraska-dismisses-bo-pelini/19698551/

Quote:Under the terms of Pelini's contract, Nebraska will owe him as much as $7.65 million over the remaining term in an agreement that runs through Feb. 28, 2019. The deal paid Pelini a base salary of just under $3.1 million for the current contract year, and that amount was scheduled to increase by $100,000 next year.

Pelini is owed $150,000 for each of the 51 full months remaining on the deal ($1.8 million a year), according to his contract, although "within a reasonably brief period following termination," he is required to use his best efforts to find "substantially comparable employment" that generates income to offset Nebraska's obligation to him. Pelini's contract with another employer must be "without structuring or timing (of) compensation to avoid mitigation."

I don't think it has much to do at all with how many wins he got during a season. It had more to do with his personal actions and that went well beyond simply being "cranky".

To go beyond that, one can simply look at how often Nebraska had 9 win season BUT lost the big games and lost them in ugly fashion.
