As a young'in, what is this?

RE: For All You Old People - Stanger - 12-08-2014 11:37 PM

Wow, Anthony's and Kings Head. Amoco station wasn't there when I was (torn down to build that hotel?). Could never figure out Anthony's, a pizza place with Greek deserts, run by a family that looked Hispanic and had a Hispanic name (Mendez or something like that).

Looking down Hampton Boulevard, you can just make out BAL on the left (is it still called BAL?)

RE: For All You Old People - ODUsmitty - 12-08-2014 11:42 PM

ANthony's was run by a Filipino family named Mendoza. They had terrific pizza and a sub ("the Zorba") that rocked. Small pitchers of beer was a dollar. We had several years of our fraternity's happy hour here, and were always treated well.

No that was Hampton blvd.

Looking down towards where the ted is now.

I also remember when grays pharmacy had a lunch counter in it and they had the best limeade ever.

One year, think it was 1987, Kings Head had a thursday happy hour of $0.10 a draft. Craziness, as waitresses could not keep up with demand. Good bands there, too.

Really? Isn't BAL just off Hampton? It seems to be a block away in this photo. But I could just be seeing it wrong.

The white building on the left was Small's Hardware at the corner of 43rd St. and Hampton. Must have been a Sunday considering the lack of traffic. Seems like only yesterday.

Wow this is awesome! So much has changed!

RE: For All You Old People - Old Dominion - 12-09-2014 06:45 AM

Grays also had a great barbecue. Wish someone had a picture of the old quonset huts we used as classrooms. Classy!

Yeah, that was me too.

RE: For All You Old People - Punk - 12-09-2014 09:19 AM

The Red Hot Chili Peppers played Kings Head Inn...

It seemed every place had a special on a different night back then. Friar Tucks, Speedys Tacos, Anthonys, Zeros, 4400, Crazy Charlie's, etc.

RE: For All You Old People - The Flagship - 12-09-2014 09:33 AM

Anyone remember the name of another pizza place on the corner just north of King's Head?

You're going to have to go back further than that to catch the old guys. When I was there it just changed to Battersons, I think it was School Room or School House or something like that before.

But Battersons was cool.
