Allen Iverson still has eligibility? Who knew?

So, should we expect news today? Or what?

Ok no problem. I can keep it to myself.

C'mon man, I like the excitement! Keep it coming.

Same here. Unknown good news beats no news...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but at this point there is no news. JJ and staff are out recruiting there butts off looking for another point guard to go with Caver. At this time there is no positive news. This is the time of year that players transfer for that one last year of grad school eligibility. I do know we are looking at those plus other transfers and high schoolers....trying to find the last part of the puzzle...at this time there is no commitments and really no news at all.

Grad Transfer would be great, especially because I could see Xavier Green becoming our point of the future with caver being a stud defender and distributor off of the bench. Xavier Green would be a huge problem for every point guard in C-USA.

This is why I could not give a name. Stuff falls through which I still have not heard. But if I do hear about it falling through I will most definitely share the name.

It's not the end of the world if we're relying on Caver and Green next year.

No, but at least on paper, PG would be a weak spot, especially considering what other conference mates have at that position.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - T-Mac - 04-05-2016 09:53 AM

That's true if you assume that Caver doesn't improve at all. I think he's going to make pretty drastic improvements next year with significantly more reps in practice and a whole lot more PT. If Xavier Green was truly our #1 target, it speaks volumes about his readiness to play and contribute next year. If Caver makes a notable freshman to sophomore improvement, and Green is as good or better than Caver was this year, we should be solid at PG.

I'm on an emotional roller coaster right now.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - monarx - 04-05-2016 10:21 AM

The undisclosed kid I'm hearing about that has committed is most likely to redshirt and therefore wouldn't help us next season anyway. Plus he's a shooting guard, not a true point guard. I wonder if we're relying on Fields to be the backup next season with Caver starting? So obviously we need another point guard for next season, hopefully a grad transfer.

OK yea then I am still on point with this.

Even if you assume improvement from Caver (a solid possibility) and you assume Green's readiness (more of a leap) that is still a lot to put on underclassmen.

would be nice to get this kid and then find a grad transfer PG. I like the fact that Jones is willing to go the non traditional route and bring in transfers, JUCOs, and grad transfers.

So, just doing a cursory search on Rivals.com presents us with these area guards that have not committed:

Keith Stagg (6'5" 175 SG) Kings Fork (Suffolk) [Verbal Commits]
Kyonze Chavis (6'6" 185 SG) Norfolk Collegiate (NFK) [Verbal Commits)
Malcolm Weathers (6'4" 170 SG) Cape Henry Collegiate (VB)
Bryan Hart (6'2" 175 PG) Hampton Roads Academy (NN) [Verbal Commits]
Mark Seaman (6'3" 170 SG) Walsingham Academy (Williamsburg)
Terrell Toliver (6'2" 180 PG) Phoebus (Hampton)

My opinion based on baseless speculation? Kyonze Chavis. I have absolutely no inside info though, and I coulda missed guys since Rivals.com isn't all-encompassing.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - ODUBB35 - 04-05-2016 10:59 AM

I fully expect Caver to improve, especially without having to play behind Freeman. He has the tools. But I still think that we could use an upgrade in order to compete with our conference mates at the PG position. Just off the top of my head, some rising sophomores include Rice's Marcus Evans, Charlotte's Jon Davis, and Marshall's Jon Elmore, all of which are ahead of Caver at this point in time. Can Caver catch up and compete with these guys? I hope so.

I see a new whipping boy emerging now that we don't have Bacote to kick around anymore
