Yea, he was a long shot at best.

So last week on the coaches show, I think it was, it was mentioned that "hopefully" we will add one more player next year, a big man. Who might that be, any names out there besides the one that just got away?

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - DaBigBlue - 01-12-2015 11:10 AM

I think we're still looking for the HS'er or Prep big/PF. Some old names keep popping up, but there may of been some new ones with the rankings. Hopefully will hear something soon with school back in.

We did offer John Marshall's guard Jeremy Carter-Sheppard, 6-0, G, who has offers from Richmond, Cincinnati, Duquesne, Longwood and UNCW. He's been playing better well lately. Three of those schools we been recruiting against often. They recently played Cape Henry, Marcus Evans, a Rice commit had a great couple of games. He always played great D but has been filling up the net lately. I like his game, very active.

I would go JUCO or grad transfer one more time to try and get a shot blocking presence. We are going to be tested next season without Ross, Arledge and Ebondo in the paint. Our perimeter D will be stressed without a shot blocking presence.

I like Taylor, Stith and Pervier but they are more active rebounders and less likely to be a force on the defensive side of the ball.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - mac - 01-12-2015 11:24 AM

How about a 6'6 ' 255 pound monster to go with that 7 footer! WK sure had one. Stith will be helpful since he has played a year at E. Carolina, we know he was a great rebounder there.Has had a year to work on his offense too. We need another big bad, only somewhat kidding about the monster. 6'8" or 9 monster would be fine by me!

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - mac - 01-12-2015 11:25 AM

Ps, dont forget Carver, 6'7". But he is not a monster!

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - ODUR8R - 01-12-2015 11:27 AM

Just need some rim protection. We are getting it with Ross and Arledge right now. Stith didn't show a ton of that at ECU, granted he was just a freshman. JJ really wanted Shevon Thompson who is dominating right now for Mason. Imagine how our defense would look with that guy.

We have offered two JUCO's, 6'11 Johnny Hamilton, 6'7 Kimani Jackson that would help. Hamilton has some really high offers.

He's a guard, Douglas is a guard, Talley is a guard. Nice problems to have, 6'7 guards but we need to replace the production we are getting from Ross and JA.

We need a monster, that's my point!

Pervier is averaging 3.5blks a game... Also heard he broke a kids rib this past week by just going straight up and the guy trying to body him up on a layup. Pervier didn't even move. I have a video of it but it won't let me post it

That sounds pretty good at the JUCO level. Hopefully he can provide some of what we are losing with Ross and Arledge, may be asking a lot of a JUCO transfer. I'd try and add one more.

Any chance of a recommitment from Isaiah Maurice?
Apparently he decommited from us In order to get a shot at Wake Forest.
Now the highest program with an offer for him is Ohio University.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - ODUR8R - 01-12-2015 12:08 PM

I just wonder if his charter HS situation is something that would prevent him getting into Old Dominion. Not exactly the easiest school around for a football or basketball player to enroll in.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - Monarchblue - 01-12-2015 12:16 PM

I know this is a dead horse, but if he can get into Ohio, there is no reason he shouldn't be admitted at ODU. If it is a character issue that the coaches have concerns about, then that is a different story.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - ODUR8R - 01-12-2015 12:23 PM

This is the school he goes to...http://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2014/07/pace-academy-has-charter-renewed (the school) ran into some serious problems last season, around the time he decommitted. Have NO IDEA if it is related.

If I was in our position, I might would go look for another 6'9 small forward with my first ever scholarship offer as ODU's HC. Once again, pure speculation, for all I know he's capable of getting into any school, including Wake Forest, which apparently didn't work out either.

ODUR8R, I have to mention again how I'm astounding at the amount of quality information you share with Monarch Nation on BleedBlue. You are ***** Star and 03-thumbsup 24/7.

Thanks, great stuff!

Idk why all you guys were so excited that Pervier was looking at ODU before he signed, then once he signed all you guys were negative saying idk if he will do that well, thats a lot for a Juco transfer to do, etc. he's a 7'1 280lbs true big man. Plays better against bigger and better competition. Almost had a triple double against indian hills, one of the best jucos around. Had 32pts, 18rebounds, 4blks against 7'2 and 6'10 this past week. While also playing with 4 other d1 guards, idk what else e has to do. When he gets to ODU this summer yall gonna eat your words quick.
