Too funny.

Did you watch them or are you just saying that because they were former 4 star recruits? They are leaving because at least one, maybe both were going lose playing time next season on a team that was pretty bad. Cody is a solid defender, but not a good offensive player. Caleb is a decent offensive player, but not a good defender. Again, they have time to improve and playing in the CUSA instead of the ACC will help.

I'd love to have them because they are talented and would have a year to improve. But, they were not good for NC State.

I'm saying that because my buddy that lives in Raleigh went to NCSU and said one of them is pretty good. I'm sure he doesn't have your connections though so please let us know if the coaches don't think they are great. I won't pretend to have inside sources.

FWIW, they are transferring because they were expected to lose playing time due to other guys coming in. Take that for whatever it is worth. They claim its because the coach didnt fit theor offensive games

They are very talented but Giles is right...they were bad at NC State. Probably has a lot to do with the coaching. Terrible situation there.

Ambrose is transferring to UNCW. I wish him the best.

There is some kind of poetry here.

Calib is 6-7 ave 31 min/gm; 12 ppg and 5 rbg and 2.5 3s at 36% as a sophomore. We didn’t have anyone average 36% from 3. That is not bad in the ACC and I would take it in a minute. Not the expert some of you claim to be but Just sayin…….

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - Monarchblue - 04-18-2016 09:57 AM

Yeah, to say they were bad is absurd. A lot of the time Caleb was the 2nd best player on their team.

Sounds like just what the doctor ordered to me.

We definitely have to improve the 3-point shooting. It's hard to win consistently in today's game without it.

As simply a stand alone 3 point shooter, maybe there is a role for that, but there is also a lot more to basketball than that. He shot 39% overall (22% on 2 point jumpers) and had pedestrian numbers in rebounding, getting to the line (and shooting FTs, assisting, or defending. Im not calling him terrible, but he really struggled at NC State and was not likely to be in the rotation. If he did commit to ODU, I would hope the year off would really benefit both players games. Simply my opinion, but I think people are overstating their impact.

I don't believe Cal is after them at all outside of a long shot backup plan in case a bunch of guys bail.

They could end up being good players at ODU with continued improvements, but they aren't game changing type prospects. Im more excited about Green than I am about either of the twins.

There is some validity to that. But, also remember with the way that the refs are calling the game, the cycle may turn into the better teams being the teams with guards/wings that penetrate and get to the foul line.

This says Caleb Martin shot better than 40% on 2 point attempts both years at NC St.

2 point jumpers. Doesn't include layups and dunks.

Check out hoops hype. Gives a pretty good breakdown if you are interested.

Frankly, 2 point jumpers are for the most part stupid unless you have a freak like Trey.

Agreed. Luckily he didn't shoot a ton of them like his brother. (who shot a little better at 34%)

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den - Monarchblue - 04-18-2016 11:58 AM

I'll grant you that Cody wasn't that good. But he was a decent energy/rebounding guy. I also think he would play the 4 for us instead of the 3, which suits him better.

The simplest way I can put this is...
Caleb Martin- good offensive player and very bad defensive player.
Cody Martin- great defensive player and bad offensive player.

A close relative of mine went to nc state so I watched them pretty much every time they were on tv. I say this knowing that they were severely under coached.

Cody didn't rebound at all. I don't think he would play the 4 for us. I think he might be a good defensive stopper in spots, but I'm not sure how he fits in (assuming they committed) with his brother, Green, Talley, Stith, Haynes, Carver plus we have possible better options as stretch 4 type players.

here is an article I remember reading about him last month. nothing earth shattering in it, but something to familiarize yourself with him.
